My local tyre fitter never uses axle stands when changing Tyres - should I be concerned ?
he really should no better than that imo...... is your car safe in his hands??You will note how a tyre fitter never crawls under you car - the wheels are on the outside...

What amazes me about this thread so far is that nobody has commented on the OP effectively throwing away £100's worth of trolley jack which can probably be fixed for a couple of quid's worth of new seals and a bit of labour, and has then gone out and bought another trolley jack. What's he going to do when the seals on that go? Buy yet another one?
Maybe I've got a bit of an axe to grind here. I have two trolley jacks, one 2.5 tonne which is friggin' enormous and is hernia inducing to move around, and the lightweight aluminium one from Machine Mart that the OP has just binned. Guess which one I use all the time? Yes, it's the lightweight, easy to push around one (which by the way hasn't given me a moments bother). And if the seals fail, or weep, I'll buy some new ones and fit them.
Erm, you mean apart from the first two posts after the initial post which suggested the OP took it back to the place he bought it from.Maybe I've got a bit of an axe to grind here. i dont give a flying damn if he chooses to risk his own safety.... i do care if my car slips off the jack or the jack fails and my pride and joy lands nicely on the deck....You will note how a tyre fitter never crawls under you car - the wheels are on the outside...
To be honest imo the jack in question is imo not fit for purpose...... thats just my opinion.
i used the thing a Maximum of 10-15 times over a 2 year period, i then used the jack to lift the rear of my car and upon getting up from under the car notice the jack is fully retracted and dying in its own pool of hydraulic blood......
i return the thing to machine mart who said " they usually fail when jacking, we gets lots returned for leaking but when they fail they wont jack at all" im guessing they get a good few of these units back in the shop.
guys i just wanted people to know that this particular unit MAY have issues. i know these units are very popular......

Only just read this thread. I worked for Clarks inspecting things they imported. The quality of the st they import and sell is shocking. Same for most of the crap in machine mart. After two weeks I resigned as I didnt want to be associated with the crap they dealt in. I wouldnt work under nothing that was being held up with their products !

My old MDC trolley jack is still working fine and we're at nearly 40 years now! I wonder how many of those on sale today will last 4 years, let alone 40?btw, My two ton jack I bought from the now defunct Motorist Discount Centre for £25 is still going strong after over thirty years...
