We've got rid of all the Mercs now, replaced with new Volvos...

Both have no issue holding 12th at 50mph at all.. The Volvo will pull it uphill fully loaded whereas the Mercs knocked it into 11th often. But, the Volvos are more powerful.

It's at 40mph that it's odd as the Mercs took 12th wheras the Volvos sit in 11th and are reving a tad high.

There are no restrictions on gearboxes, kick down works in auto as does manual mode. We're encouraged to use manual mode in the odd occasion that would benefit.. Like up and down hills on a main road where the 'box can't predict what the road will do next.
You're lucky: my old firm (supermarket) puts a metal cover over the selector on the auto Volvos, preventing you from using "M": all you got was D/N/R.

I'd love to confirm if ours do the same but they don't go that fast!!

Panda.. Ive no idea what map is on the gearbox but at a 47 (nav) cruise it will stick in 12th.. At 40mph in 12th it's at about 900rpm - under the green band.

Yep.

Brand new fleet of 61 plate Volvo FM10 450s. The one that the reg plate ends in an A does a GPS 57mph...which is nice if you're trunking. smile

I'd get a nose bleed at that speed!

That same wagon will only be doing 55 when it's ready for a new pair of tyres on the back...

On another note, the LED sidelights look cool eh

I always wanted to be able to do a steady 57mph, or even 58mph. I managed once to do 60mph-62mph by carefully turning the key back until the restrictor shut off but the engine kept running. biggrin

"Keying it", non? Older Scanias were the ones for that, according to drivers at my old place.

Fodens were known for it. Turning off the ignition turned off all of the electrics, but you had to pull a lever to kill the, now unrestricted, engine.

Old volvos would do it.Maybe around early to mid 90's.If you slowly turned the key back and got it right it would knock off the limiter.
Had an old Iveco too some 10yrs ago.If you wanted to go faster it was fuse 14 lol.

The first Scanny 4 series did it too. We had some on a P-plate that got 'flicked' everynight. laugh

It makes a massive difference, the truck I've got does 58mph on the GPS and it literally cures elephant racing

Quick motors are a bonus on trunks at night, you can spend all night overtaking.
I've noticed steady Eddie Stobart at night aren't so steady and go flying past.

It certainly does, I hate nothing more than being stuck behind the same truck for goodness knows how many miles as they are evenly matched.

We've lost 2 quick motors for long night work, they would have you overtaking all night.
We have one left that does 56mph but it's in high demand.
The rest are now down at 54mph (52 gps).
Not too bad slow enough to not get caught up in elephant racing but quick enough to get past Tesco and Sainsburys.

I'm lead to believe that 0.72 leptons can be achieved by pulling fuse 19 on modern DAFs. whistle
