A follow on from the American wrecker thread, I was having a nose around on Mick Gould Commercials forum, they've got loads of pictures of jobs they've dealt with. Some real head scratchers.

I'm sure we've all gone down a road at some point and thought, Ooh maybe this wasn't such a good choice..

But really, you've got to know when to stop!

only a muppet would have kept driving. even if you were going to continue, you'd surely get out and walk it first.

I once took my previous truck ,only 11 ft high,down a lane when the A259 in East Sussex was closed

for a crash or summat.

The road narrowed and the trees were closing in on the road and i nearly got wedged at one

point,both mirrors had folded in and i had to give it extra beans to get through it.

It felt like a close one to disaster.

I see how he got stuck but how did the XF's get damaged, and they wouldnt have been going back abroad as right hand drive Dafs are asembled in the UK.

P.S this is one of the reasons i dont use a Sat Nav, id get lazy and slavishly follow it and end up in the st, just like him.

For the people whose job entails off road driving, I sympathise. Tanker drivers who have to negotiate single track lanes might not have as good an excuse as cement mixer drivers and brick wagons, but its all a world away from motorways and A roads!

I had to take a heavy custom trailer, that opened out into a large shop, down to Goodwood this year. I drove into the grounds and saw the rain sodden acres of grass that they wanted me to drive onto (after weeks of rain) they had a few tracks laid out, but clearly not enough, especially on the turns.

They wanted me to drive up hill on the grass and go round in a steady arch without churning up the grass and down hill onto a marked out pitch.

I diid tell them to get the chains and giant tractor ready

Was even worse when went to pick it up. It had rained and the ground was a quagmire. I had to be towed backwards to couple up, then towed back out onto a tarmac drive. The whole job was a nightmare from start to finish.

Sounds like fun, I used to love doing stuff like that. You never know what was going to happen next and every job was different, I miss my old low loader

Only the smaller trucks are assembled in the UK, larger tractor units and the like are built in Holland.
