Two things have happened since I started this thread that are vital to the direction I'm about to take.
1/ Diesel makes me sick. It never used to. I guess it's the fact it's no longer Diesel at all but a load of additives and crap.
2/ Diesel cost so much and it's about to be faced out there's little to no point.
So I have an MG ZT V6, fitted a tow bar and will be getting a light weight trailer instead of a transporter.
I may be looking to convert the MG to LPG at some point.
I can store the trailer on the roof of my outbuilding when not in use (theft resistant location) and I can run the car a lot cheaper than a truck.
