Hello all, after umming and aahing for such a long time, I've decided to do my C and C+E licences after a promise from a family friend that he would employ me as soon as I got my C+E.

The costs are high, I understand, but with the promise of work, doing something I'm interested in (and that will also help me to emigrate to Canada, in a few years), and the kind of work I enjoy (previously used to do nationwide van driving, stupid hours, stupid deadlines, stupid distances - trucks can only be easier), plenty have tried to talk me out of it, plenty have told me its a crap job, but my mind is set.

So, would anyone like to recommend me a driver training school? I'm from Leeds, but have heard good things about Peter Smyth in Mansfield. They apparently have a B&B they use and offer some kind of finance, but they are yet to reply to me email, and I'm concerned that they don't seem to use a proper articulated truck, are draw bar trucks easier to pass your test in? Aside from that, I'm sure Yorkshire has plenty of driver schools. Would anyone like to recommend me one?

Thanks

Nick

Can vouch for Peter and his trainers, and yes they do use draw bars . They are normally quite busy, try ringing them although I would imagine there is someone else a bit closer to Leeds

Not much difference between artic and wagon and drag for test purposes. Just less steering on the reverse in a w&d.

I'd find a good "one man band" to learn with.

Avoid any adverts in newspapers that says things like "earn over £600 a week" and "guaranteed job" like the fking plague!

Thanks guys. Elmet is just 6 miles from me, with Tockwith being 24 miles away, good to know that the local ones are good!

Has anyone used either of these companies? Any extra info anyone wants to supply.

Plenty on trucknetuk have used them and posted about them - all rate them very highly

I used a firm in Sheffield who were very cheap at the time, relative to others.
