100 million euros in €100 notes fits on a pallet, weighs about one tonne
I think that's the legal winner so far. Eye watering! May I ask how you would know such a random (but cool) fact?
I'm fascinated reading this thread. As a lot of you guys are obviously truckers, does the load on the back make you feel any different about the job? i.e. more nervous carrying £4m worth of Iphones compared to a load of laminate flooring for example
I carried the t-rex around europe for a year on the walking with dinosaurs tour and he was worth a million quid.
Mind you it was life size, so was never to concerned about someone having it off the back of the lorry
All our trailers are box wagons, and we have an anti theft bar, plus padlock these days.
Alot of the show gear we carry is worth a few quid, so whilst travelling from gig to gig, I'll try and park at the end of each day somewhere secure. Been doing the tours for 7 years, and so far have been broken into once, in Latvia, they did 4 of our trailers, but took nothing as it was all to big and bulky to have it away with.

The majority of the work I do involved transporting goods for the oil industry,
It's not unusual for you to be carrying items worth millions of pounds, be them large or small
When I started out on a transit van, a regular job was for baker Hughes inteq, I was given an item to deliver to their headquarters in stoneywood, where this prototype item was being unveiled to the big shots in the industry the following day, the item and it's associated box to go with it was the only one in the world and worth in excess of £15 million
I'd rather they never told me to be fair

Some of the higher end car transporters can have huge sums on board, I collected from Goodwood revival recently not big value cars in the current crazy pricing world of classic cars, but just under a million, however when a single 250gto is approx 25million+ now, a few of them & more regular 2- 3 million quid classics like a bugatti t35 or a 250 swb & maybe a gullwing or a Gt40 & its easy for a truck to have load nearing 100million.
Our trucks that trunk from Callaway & Taylor Made each evening have a designated route and alarm bells ring in the tracking office if it deviates off that route or stops for a period of time. They are probably a lot each on an average night

I'll have to ask him but my old man used to do airfreight, and one of the contracts was with Pfizer. As far as I can recall you could only haul a couple of pallets at a time of Viagra because of the value.
Oh c'mon, people of PH. There's got to be a joke in there somewhere...pavka007 said:
Some of the Production Trucks for live outside broadcast are so full with fibre optics, electronics, monitors etc, that they could be close to several millions in equipment.
A top end HD lens alone is close to 20K each. and now with 3D format it could be even more.
Few years back I was seeing a girl who was freelance camerawomen for European Golf Tournaments TV crew around Europe and I was fortunate enough to travel with her more than a few times to tournament. All the lorries are very sophisticated piece of equipment.
Lenses start at around £13k and head upwards, a big 70-80x box lens could be worth around £40-£50k (ex vat obviously). The lenses are all used on either 2D or 3D productions, there's no specific 3D lenses, the only difference is that every camera position on a 3D show has twice as many cameras and lenses.A top end HD lens alone is close to 20K each. and now with 3D format it could be even more.

The production or Outside Broadcast vehicle doesn't carry any of the cameras or lenses, it houses all the built in equipment needed, so routers, vision mixer, sound desk, edit machines etc. I think the going rate for an HD truck is around £8 million, complete. Might be more these days, the next generation of 4K trucks is probably going to be into double figures (millions).
All the equipment like cameras, lenses, sound gear, cables, grips etc are carried in a support vehicle, we call this the 'tender', and is likely to be the vehicle the OP mentioned in his first post, since most OB trucks are not overtly branded with a single broadcaster's logo. Some of the tenders, however, do have big coloured wraps down each side, usually for SKY Rugby or Football.

I used to think that whilst waiting for the ferry at Newhaven on route to Le Mans, Classic Jaguars etc, and pondering whether the cargo was worth more than the ferry itself!Gassing Station | Commercial Break | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
