Also finding it eats brakes. 24k and had to do pads and discs on the front rears have not much left on them.
doesn't it just !!

Was thinking of this thread earlier and as if by magic up it pops - 14k on the clock and just rang the mech to get it serviced, he enquired as to mileage as they're famously eating pads, funny you say that as it sounds like a pad is already down to metal as I got a slight grinding earlier!

Two days later a brake pad warning lights uprolleyes

It must be some kind of record to need brake pads before tyres or a first service! Wtf are they made of cheesecake?

As you can see I'm at 88,888 and have only needed front pads so far, at around 78k I think.

Just had a problem with mine. We we on our way to Loughborough from the IoW, got to Silverstone and lost power. Could not keep it on the cruise so had to nurse it on th M1 and could not keep up with the lorries on the inclines .Fine at low speeds round Loughborough. Got back on the M1 to come south and again some sort of limp mode. Now it was only doing it when the temp gauge went past 6 o clock where it normally sits. As it cooled it was fine power back. Nurses it back to Pompey for the ferry but it took quite a bit longer than my usual 80/85mph pace. It needed a new thermostat under warranty. But that needs all new housing as well it’s was a £380 warranty job. Been fine since. 17500 miles.

1 yr into mine and at 57k (67 plate)

Absolutely love it.
Never use the car now and it tows my caravan with all my mountain bikes and dirt bikes in it no issue.
Averaged 37mpg over a tank and that included a lot of towing.

best motor I've had in years.

That's what I like to hear! Looking at replacing my trusty (and rusty) faithful Mk7 at some point with a new Custom.

Out of interest, how to you mount the MTBs in the back? I currently lash mine up as best I can with bungee cords and foam pads to stop the handlebars rubbing against the sides, not ideal!

24mx do tie down straps. The wrap round the bars and pull the bike tight with the front wheel against the bulkhead or rear door so the bike stands up straight. I can get 4 mtb's in or two dirt bikes plus all the gear no bother.

If you jam the bar end against the side of the van with wheel against the bulkhead, then one strap round the opposite bar will pull the bike tight down. One strap for one bike.

Main complaint I had with a custom (had it for 4 months as a hire van) was the quality of the paint work, or should I say complete lack of quality.

Turkish factory build quality is hit and miss

This was in a blue colour, I would recommend people stick with solid white so it’s easy to repair.

It’s a van, who cares!

Just replaced the rear discs and pads now, suspect I’ve now got a sticky front caliper.

Now done 40k

I'm thinking about a Custom Limited to replace my 2 year old Trafic, finding it difficult to justify the extra £2/3k it will cost me over the Renault though, anyone had both? Are they worth the extra £.
Renaults are do much better to drive than the Transit.

I'm not sure I agree with that...

Neither do I, i've had both and the Custom is a far better vehicle imho, although mine is a Sport version so maybe that's the reason.

A Custom drives really well and is surprisingly refined. Reliability is a different thing however, I've got two full envelopes of recalls on my desk this morning. This is about the 5th or 6th batch in 12 months - never known anything like it.

I changed to a Citroen Dispatch after my Custom Sport because I was sick of all the recalls and faults, it looks like things haven’t improved. I actually think the Citroen is a nicer van to drive, it’s much much cheaper too.

I bought mine in 2016 and the service light came on within 6 weeks, crazy they haven’t sorted it after more than 4 years.

Unfortunately they have to go to a main dealer for recalls which can mean a significant wait. Ford are in real trouble with their commercials at the moment - I wont go near them for the forseeable future.
