Ford will be issuing a recall on all 2 litre diesel engines in Custom/ Transit (and any other applications) built 2016 to September 2017 with the wet belt.

We're on engine number 11 in just over 12 months and had to fight for Ford contribution but they now acknowledge there is a fundamental flaw.

Still a bloody ballache to get the remaining 100 or so sorted..
Do you know what the recall will involve? Mines is a 2016 one of the first customs with the 2.0.

I've had details of the recall now, if you've got a 2016/17 Custom or Transit it might be worth calling your local dealer and asking if your registration is subject to recall 20B44.
Thanks will do that mines is a 2016.

I’m 6’4 and find it pretty uncomfortable but most vans are the same for me. The small seat and pedal position isn’t great I had an older Peugeot expert and that was much more car like seat and driving position.

Definitely an auto for my next van.

No problem at all!

18B42 - TRANSIT- 2.0L ECOBLUE - OIL DILUTION - 5 minute job

20S24 - TRANSIT & TRANSIT CUSTOM RUN ON WATER PUMP FUSE - 5 minute job

20B44 - TRANSIT AND TRANSIT CUSTOM TIMING BELT INSPECTION - no time at all to see if it needs belt but of course a good amount of work if it does
Great thanks!
I knew the fuse recall still had to be done but thought it had been in for the oil dilution previously.

Will get it booked it got some spare time coming up so hopefully they have some space.

The van has been in the dealers for 16 weeks awaiting parts, aka new engine. I have a nice shiny new transit as a loaner, which is nice.

Today, two events. 1. New engine now arrived, so work will commence, and 2. The entire work will now be warranty rather than a 50% contribution, thanks to the recall.
Great result.
Turns out not so good news. The promised warranty cover has morphed to a 70% contribution as the engine fail was due to 'piston rings' rather than the recall. No more detail than that, the engineer concerned is ' on holiday'.

Still, the new engine is fitted and working, but cost the best part of £3000.

I'll need to know the actual cause of the failure before I'm placated.
What a nightmare.

More I read about these engines the more I’m feeling uncomfortable about keeping it long term. I’m only at 48k I was sort of hoping the belt was going to get changed to get a bit more piece of mind.

Is there an issue with what oil is used sure my mechanic said it’s a specific oil you need.

Mines is a 16 plate 2.0.(55k now) In fairness it’s been totally faultless other than the random service requests early on which seems sorted out now. It’s never even had an advisory at mot and it’s only had service brakes and tyres.

Only minor issue I have is the sliding door doesn’t stay open anymore the little hook isn’t working.

It’s just the engine that still concerns me. It’s been on for the recall but nothing was done.

Seems only suitable for inner city driving.

Watched a couple of videos of the leccy Peugeot Expert that seems a decent van with a reasonable range.

My Dispatch is electric, it replaced my Diesel Dispatch, in warm weather I get around 200 miles in town, in colder weather it dropped to 140 ish. Best van I've had my a mile.
That’s very good. I probably do no more than a hundred miles a day depending on where I’m going.

Nice looking van as well might need to go and get a test drive of one.

The hybrid does seem a bit pointless. Surely a full electric must be on the cards.

The PSA/Toyota seems the only decent leccy van on the market.

The E-Transit BEV has a range of 166-196 miles, which for driving in Ulez is probably ok, but we won’t be seeing them bash up and down motorways with that sort of range.

I assume the new Transporter will be a variation on the E-Transit now that they are soon to be platform sharing?

Edit, apparently the E-Transit Custom has a slightly better range of up to 236 miles than the standard E-Transit.

Comedy pricing again I see though, £45k excl. VAT!

Obviously targeting the likes of Islington council first.
I’m guessing most would lease these nowadays don’t want to get lumbered with an iffy battery in the future.

Passed mot yesterday. It’s 6yo now and first time it’s had an advisory, front suspension arm rear bushes.

Nightmare I rarely have anything of value in the back of mines and with my business hopefully not a target. Never bothered fixing the spare wheel when that got nicked.

Quoting myself here but I had my spare wheel stolen in a station car park Thursday, cut the securing mechanism. Be careful.
Mines was taken years ago never bothered to replace it just have a spare in the back.

Think it’s not cheap to replace the mechanism unsurprising I got a wheel and tyre brand new of eBay.

Just in case anyone has similar looks like the auxiliary drive belt tensioner is the issue.

Turned out the tensioner wasn’t the issue was actually worse after changing it!

Issue(and apparently common on the 2.0) was a seized alternator pulley. Friend works at a factor so ended up changing the whole alternator as it was only about £60 more than a pulley and the mechanic thought it need a special tool to remove.

All good now.
