Not me - but my 11 year old daughter delights on waving to lorry's as we pass over the M18 on one of our dog walk routes... It seem's that most if not all drivers respond - either with a wave, or as far as she is concerned even better with a toot...

First of all it brings a smile to her face - thankyou!

Now then she asked me why all the lorry drivers respond... Initially I thought it was because you are all so bloody cheerful. Then I woke up... smile

So I promised to ask you instead! She is awaiting with a hopeful smile smile

I usually wave back or toot or flash but I'm also wary that something will be dropped on the car.

A few times I have taken photographs from motorway bridges but I got the impression that a few drivers don't like that.

Most of us are 'reasonably' happy and nothing makes us smile as much as a kid giving you a wave from a bridge, (much better than projectiles being thrown.)

Always made me happy to give a blast on the air horns to the waving kids wavey

I always find it unnerving when I see a pedestrian on a bridge as I hurtle towards them.

You never know if they might do something stupid.

I'll be of those who isn't waving OP.

Lots of kids give the bent arm pump signal and love a honk of horns in return .
I always acknowledge young kids waving from bridges ,buses ,cars etc .
It's something myself and my sisters used to do on the A1 near RAF Catterick in the sixties .

The ones that don't respond with a toot will be driving a Stralis' or a Merc hehe. Only the truckers will get that one.

So many modern vehicles have such weedy horns .DAF are probably the worst offenders .

Shirley shum mishtake? DAF, Volvo and Scania have the manliest horns on trucks without going aftermarket. The MAN TG's have air horns too albeit much higher pitched, but they still work well.

I drive a DAF XF, I eagerly anticipate any chance to toot the horns to those who signal for me to biggrin

It's not just truckers that do this, stood by the side of a railroad in the USA my 65 year old Mum made the universal "toot" gesture and was rewarded with a horn of plenty to such a degree she almost fell over... was a real highlight of the holiday for her!

Kids waving from bridges, other vehicles etc. get a wave back.

Adults who really ought to find something more useful to do than photograph lorries from motorway bridges get ignored. One of our drivers has "Get A Life" written on the back of her sun visor (on HGVs it's a short roller blind) for deployment in such situations.

May you and her could enlighten us to your hobbies so we can rip the piss out of them and belittle you both in return?

Almost certainly something like football +/or watching 'Britain's Got Talent' and soaps on T.V.

Not quite the same but when driving our motorhome I sometimes give a blast of the horn when there are kids on bridges, they wave, we wave, it's fun :-)

Reminds me of this video of the girl asking the ship to honk honk... yikeshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGKZFSb7fo8

Is it just folklore that Eddie Stobart drivers can be disciplined if found to be ignoring wavers?
