The reality is that HGV's holding people up is pretty much an insignificant problem. People who get upset by it generally are just looking for a reason to be angry. Of all the problems on our road network this is very much a nothing one.
Indeed. Plus, on an average 56 mph limited trip around the M25 for example, ask any lorry driver how many trucks they overtake and then how many cars they pass (many of whom speed up as they do)

The number of cars passed will be significantly higher.

Or my personal favourite. People go crazy to get past you. Then slow down. A bit of horn helps them drop their phone and get back to driving.

I've seen some of those light bars being used to great effect as well.

"Ah fk, a suns exploded behind me, best get out the way."

Personally I'd be in favour of Aussie style bull bars for use on dawdlers.

If its slow moving traffic on the m/way, i follow the lorries, only ones who know how to maintain a constant speed.

I think the 3rd lane on a 4 lane m/way should be off limits to HGV’s though, 2 lanes of elephant racing is enough methinks.

It's like cyclists and bikers and any other "group" of road users that do not form the majority, the hate comes from non-conformity to the accepted standard. There is this general consensus that lane 1 is the slow lane, for slow vehicles and that trucks should not enter any other lane, just as cyclists should ride in the gutter.

In truth there is zero difference between a truck overtaking another truck, and a middle lane moron hogging the lane for 20 miles, but most people direct their anger at the truck drivers, not the MLMs, because they probably are MLMs.

I have never seen, on a two lane road, a car in L2 sit alongside a lorry in L1 for 30+ seconds.

A catch all solution in my mind would be a timed limiter override. Basically a big button you can hit which removes your limiter, or raised it to 60-70 for a minute or two, maybe once every hour. Possibly coupled with some Sammy Hagar or Ram Jam esque tunes blasting out a loudspeaker. This allowing passing maneuvers to be completed safely on appropriate roads, whilst retaining the limiter for whatever BS safety reasons it is there for. It'd also be funny watching BRAKE lose their st again like they did when the b-road lorry limit was upped to 50 (in England & Wales).
I really like this part... biggrin

You need to get some more driving under your belt, I see it at least once a week

I think his point is that the MLM is effectively blocking every lane apart from the outside lane, just like the two trucks side by side, so they both create the same disruption

The difference being that the MLM has the option to return to the left but chooses not to.
I agree that the end result is the same but for very different reasons though.
