I wonder if someone could help in clarifying a licence query, having passed my driving test in 1997 I have C1 entitlement on my licence, I have read in a few places I don't need to apply for a C provisional due to this, is this correct?

If yes it's great as I can save a few weeks in the whole process. In that I would send the D4 medical exam sheet with the provisional application, where does the D4 fit into the process now?

I have looked online at this but can't find any definitive answers.

Thanks for your help.

you need a Cat C provisional - as vocational licence provisionals require the D4 medical and grandfather rights C1 and D1 don;t until you are 70

Just in case it makes a difference, if you passed your driving test in 1997, you do NOT have C1 entitlement included.

If you passed in 1996, you do.

To apply for LGV C
Tick both C & D on the D2 form
Never pay more than £50 for a D4 medical
Send D2 + D4 + licence to DVLA
Scan licence before sending
