On the look out for a cheap second truck, and one of these has come up locally. I’ve always had transits, so Indont really know anything about these.

The one in question has 109bhp 5 pot 2.5, are they good strong units? Do they pull well, and half decent on juice?

How do they wear weight?

Thanks all!

I put a lot of miles on one years ago.

Mine was a 90bhp 2.5 TDI 5 cylinder. Was fine running at 3.5 tons but I’d have gone for the 110 if towing.

It did 300,000 miles without much effort. Check for rust on the crossmember above the diff.

Engine is VW, gearbox and axle are Mercedes.

It used to average about 32mpg.

Great old trucks, hardy too.

Change the timing belts, the front AND rear one, the rear one does the fuel pump and is often overlooked

I did 50k in one years ago, it took all the abuse I could give it easily
