I was fully expecting at least one driver to go this year for better money but so far they are all sticking which I did not expect.
I have told them all that there are no wage rises coming any time soon and they are all happy with that, in return as we are not that busy they are all working at the very most 35 hours a week (paid for 40). I think its a fair trade.
I had one driver tell me his mate is on £17/hr but is working stupid hours, having to drive over an hour each way to the RDC and gets treated like sh*t and is always stressed. They get the money but have no quality of life which I think is a bit more of a priority for some in these times. So swings and roundabouts.

The pay rates for drivers has always been geographically sensitive which is being accentuated in the current climate.
Those operators with locations in distribution hot spots will be most at risk of driver retention particularly as they were the ones heavily reliant on foreign drivers.
I have zero sympathy with operators who have happily taken advantage of the plentiful supply of cheap labour and not invested in their own industry with drivers being treated appallingly for decades.
That they are now blaming everyone but themselves demonstrates a total lack of responsibility and value they have for their workers. I hope the government holds firm and doesn't allow temporary visas thus forcing the industry to improve.
Anecdotal evidence of wage rises, a mate is cat C driver working Monday to Friday on days, no nights out and now earning 40k. About right in my opinion.

You think £10.50 is decent? I was fully expecting at least one driver to go this year for better money but so far they are all sticking which I did not expect.

I’m currently on £14 ph doing STGO work in NE scotland.
Proper time and a half after 40 hours, Double time on sundays, minimum 4 hours for a Saturday 5.5 for a Sunday and 10 if we go south on a Sunday. Also if we get a job after 4pm Monday to Friday that’s a minimum 4hrs per job too.
Pension, sick pay and average earnings for holidays, I believe some operators are still not doing the latter despite it now being law.
The headline figure isn’t as high as agency, but what we do is easy work, we are treated well and more importantly get a huge variation in the type of jobs we do.
I’m on a CAT3 plated unit but don’t always pull an STGO trailer, when the STGO work is quiet I can be out in a van picking stuff up or pulling a flat trailer locally. Home most nights too.
No way I’d move for more money to do trunking work for agency, the variety and the way we are treated at work is what keeps me where I currently am. Money isn’t everything, happiness at work and a good home balance is most important in my opinion

I'm in Central Scotland, basic rate where I am is £9.73 per hour and we've been told there will be no increase so if you want to go, go. That said, we've two separate pay scales for hourly paid drivers, then there's the salaried guys who's rate is different again.
I typically crack 70 hours a week for a fairly simple job (double man trunking) so the money is ok, but the temptation to jump ship for £15-18 an hour is bloody tempting

We pay £11-14/hr paye driving a taxi in Devon. No nights out, 28 days paid holiday a year, I think I'm spoiling my drivers!
I might come and work there I'm on the middle of that just pottering around in a Car derived van doing my own thing.
Our truck and plant drivers just gone up a £1 an hr to £14.50, no nights out, no weekends unless you want them and steady easy work no mauling stuff about.
