I suspect the savings made through purchasing and operating large numbers of a/c more than make up for the risk of an "all eggs, one basket" approach!
I suppose, also he would just moan and say he knew better than them anyway and that they were safe, like during the ash cloud.Nickyboy said:
WA Developements who Andrew Tinkler set up is or was largely to do with Tesco, i'm not sure what or whether they still are but that's a lot to do with the work they do for Tesco.
That's the biggest load of bks I've read on here for a while.Unless you care to explain why a small time railway infrastructure contractor aiming for civil infrastructure contracts would have anything to do with a retailer?
Tink didn't start courting Tesco until he had Stobart in his pocket and began flying their execs around in the jet/helicopter (delete as appropriate) to get logistics contracts. WA was just a short lived civils firm built up when Labour were throwing money at anything that lived, breathed and st.

Whereas I prefer a Scania, of the tag axle variety, with a proper gear stick!!
I'm on my 3rd R series Highline with the above configuration and for the work I do I cannot see past them, I like the Volvo but the Scania driving position, mirror layout, visibility, and day to day living is IMO the best of the best.
What sort of work do you do as units with a tag axle are pretty rare. I always thought they were for quarry, wood use etc??I'm on my 3rd R series Highline with the above configuration and for the work I do I cannot see past them, I like the Volvo but the Scania driving position, mirror layout, visibility, and day to day living is IMO the best of the best.
Ours are all 6x2 with a lift axle in the middle, we have the odd 4x2 to go with the urban trailers in real tight spots but I hate using them - far too twitchy!

The current reason for stobarts using man truck is that Tesco have purchased over 60% worth of shares in eddies and also Tesco have a large slice of shares in man trucks
Odd, no mention of Tesco. From Wikki:
Stobart Group:
Brother-in-laws Andrew Tinkler and William Stobart hold 8.18% and 3.77% respectively of the Stobart Group as of May 2011. Allan Jenkinson holds 4.9% of the company, the Irlam family hold 2.88% of the company and Steve O'Connor holds a further just under 3% of the company as of May 2011. The largest overall shareholder is now the investment management company Invesco who now holds 36.51% of the Stobart Group as of May 2011.
MAN AG:
Takeover by Volkswagen
In July 2011, Volkswagen AG acquired a 55.9% voting stake and 53.7% of the share capital in MAN SE. Pending regulatory approval, Volkswagen planned to merge MAN and Scania to create Europe's largest truckmaker. The combined trucks group is planned to save about 400 million euros per year, mainly by bundling procurement.[15][16] Regulatory approval was granted, and the takeover completed, in November 2011.[17]

Nearly all of tesco's own in house fleet are Mercs since they awarded the leasing contract late 2002.
However up in Scotland they have a DAF fleet.
In. One.However up in Scotland they have a DAF fleet.
Some DAF's (SF07 and SF57 registered) are now based south of the border as Livingston had more than they needed for too long. There are some Scania 18t rigids on the Tesco fleet but other than that Mercedes and DAF are almost the only 2. Incidentally, the Tesco fleet is the largest privately owned fleet in the UK.
The whole Tesco having shares in Stobart is (as we've seen above) a real urban myth. The two companies do work very closely together and Stobart carry out a huge amount of work for Tesco (trunking and store deliveries). The two companies are also jointly involved in the train which runs from Daventry - Grangemouth - Inverness daily. 'Eddie the Engine' is in Stobart livery yet is owned by Tesco, the 'LESS CO2' containers are in Tesco font but; (useless fact) the Tesco and Stobart Directors have a 'gentlemans agreement' that containers which go from Grangemouth up to Inverness have to be the Stobart Rail liveried ones. As you can imagine, the shunters and warehouse staff at Livingston love having to work round this when get store deliveries loaded!
Rescue deal for Eddie stobart, are things really as bad as some places are reporting and that without this the company would have been gone by Christmas?

A similar situation happened the other year and had the same appearance of the beginning of the end.
But it's just the way that company handle their finances.
Not that I'm a fan of them. The WS arm have waded into General Haulage, lots of flat trailer stuff. Is it to "buy" that type of traffic, undercut other companies and put them out of business, etc?
