Converting a bus into a motorhome
Discussion
It's always great having a big Bus/M/Home, the largest that we have had is just over 10 mtrs + 5mtr trailer which is great all the time that you are travelling and camping and using it but when you need to have a more permanent ng place that is when you get problems.
Since then have had 9 mtrs and a couple of 8 mtr Carthagos, which were more manageable for permanent parking, fine when you are using them for what they are meant for, but when you need to stop is the problem times.
Now down to just under 7 mtrs and easy for permant parking when not being used.
Having said all that there is a great buzz when you have a big bus and it can get you instant access to some places purely because they think you are a sponsor.
Keep your rubber on the roads people 😎

A pertinent question, but I have no intention of ever taking it to a campsite. The plans I have are for it to be self sufficient - and its main use will be for me to live in during the week (with my dog) to save myself from four hours of commuting every day.
Re the National express badge - it seems to be a later addition. It was owned by a firm called Black and White and then by Cheltenham and Gloucester, whose livery it still wears. I've seen photos of it in service, in that blue colour scheme, but without the badge.
Having said that, it is a Leyland Tiger with a Plaxton Paramount 3500 body which, I believe was used by National Express. Just not this one.
Any update on your new toy, Bruce? Or have you blown it up? ;-)Re the National express badge - it seems to be a later addition. The seller claims you can drive that on a normal driving license?? Surely that cannot be true?mike9009 said:

Could well be, I looked into buying a Fire Engine and you can drive that on a std licence (and the 5th wheel trailer I had) because they aren't a HGV (no goods involved) nor are they PSV when in private use so they fall between categories.Very high spec interior there, if not necessarily what you would want for a motorhome.
If a bus/coach (Class 5 as the add states) is over 30 years, driven no for high or reward, with 8 or less pax, then you can drive it on a car license as a vintage vehicle I believe. Doesn't have to be a pre-1997 ticket either afaik, just a Cat B 3500kg car. See below info leaflet.
In addition but not as appears to be the case here but might explain the 1997, if re-registered as a motorhome I believe the rules are slightly different, and people with a C1 (7500kg van/lorry as issued as standard to anyone pre 1997, then you can drive a motorhome of any weight. Or something like that. I've not looked or found the details of this from a reliable source.

The seller can claim what they like, it's down to the buyer to make sure that they have the correct licence. Any motorhome over 7500kg GVW requires a C licence. No grey areas.
But it isn't a motorhome (currently)The link provided by dhutch shows what vehicles are allowed, my comment was aimed at the reference about driving any motorhome over 7.5 tonnes on a car licence.
