Not sure where to post this but im looking at taking an extended break around Europe for 6 months next year, does anyone know where you stand house insurance wise and if you need a specialised company, I have someone who will keep an eye on the property but no one will actually live there.

Check your policy to be sure but my folks have certainly been away for up to 3 months and the house was covered in their case.

I recently changed insurance companies for house insurance and seem to recall there being a declaration about not leaving the property uninhabited for X days, I'm guessing this may be industry standard, probably worth checking your T & C's

Most standard policies definitely have a clause that limits the number of days the house can be left empty. However I assume that most insurance companies will still cover the house, just want to be assured the house will be checked and a higher premium.

I'm doing a similar thing next year and hadn't given this a thought, I will have to have a check.

I was hoping to get a mate (who rents already) to move in and rent it cheaply while we are away, this would probably affect the insurance in someway too...
