Plans to buy a new to us caravan are progressing and following advice here we are off to Lancashire next week to visit the dealers there and check layouts.

Checking Autotrader, Ebay etc got me thinking. There are obviously 2 different types of trader the main dealer type with vans starting around £6k and up, and then there are the dealers selling vans from around £3k up to £10k or so.

Ths has got me thinking as presumably the main dealers sell on the caravans they dont want to put on their forecourt. So how do they do this?

If we dont find a van we want for the price we want to pay can we just tell the dealers what we want and how much we'll pay so that of they get one in on part exchange they can contact us? Does this happen?

Most dealers still retail most vans in that price bracket with only rough stuff and older vans routinely being traded though sometimes a bulk bunch if stock will be traded off to help with cash flow.
I don't think many dealers would trade a van to the general public as sale of goods act still applies and your opening yourself up to hassle further down the line for no profit, why would someone trade to a private buyer when they can send it to their regular trader and not risk any hassle.

Some dealers like PReston Caravans have retail trade sections where vans that would have gone to trade are sold on cheaply with minimal preparation, these are normally older or vans with known issues.
