So, first year of owning a van through winter and wondered how people go about looking after their vans during the winter months?

I know the usual stuff about purging water lines and emptying tanks etc but wondered how people control moisture. Particularly those who have their vans at home.

As of November, we will be lucky enough to have the van on the property and will be able to have it on an elec hookup. I was considering getting a small dehumidifier / fan heater in there. What are people's thoughts?

We'll not be fully laying it up since we will likely be using it to camp at our new house at weekends(!) for a month whilst we have some renovation work carried out prior to moving in. So it will definitely be used, just in a strange fashion!

Other than dehumidifiers - what else should I consider doing?

I've posted this one before, but its worth another mention. Make sure the van is not level so that water will run off the roof and not form puddles.

I used to take our anything that might attract or hold moisture.

But,as you said, using the van all year is the best answer.

We use ours every other weekend right throughout winter. We only go to sites less than an hour away for a 2 nighter: we have 3 sites that we frequent that are open all year round but have another 2 to check out soon. At Half Term (Oct aand Feb) and between Xmas and NY we'll venture further afield.

If the weather is cr@p we make sure we have reading stuff and DVDs; if its nice then short walks etc

Oh and each site is near a pub for a meal on the Fri or Sat night. The other night is either a BBQ (if not wet) or warm up a meal brought from home.

Whole weekend: less than a ton!

I can recommend it if you are able to get away...

I've had motor homes for over twenty years and during the winter I put one of those long tube type greenhouse heaters plugged in all winter. It only costs pennies to run and keeps the damp away from the interior.

Hope that helps.
