Rather than a camper van I have gone with the car/caravan combo, my 'new' classic car is the Volvo Amazon alledged to put out around 115 horses and strong as an ox. Mostly just me and occasional wife using the caravan and have decided on a budget of around 3 or 4K should net a reasonable eriba.
What alternatives though to the eriba? Must have at least a thetford and sink room.

Before I got a campervan I had similar thoughts, in fact I still do, an Eriba would be a lovely companion to my Bongo, both with lift up roofs so a mice match.

Anyway, while there are alternatives I found the Eriba was the superior choice, they have a bit of a following too so keep value better than some others too.

Yes I have noticed the price's that Eriba make on the secondhand market. Look to be nice quality so like most things, you get what you pay for!
Wife insists on the thing having a proper washroom so that rules out the 'Puck'.

We have an Eriba as a replacement for our camper .

Points to bear in mind.

A decent Eriba is £6000 plus especially if you want a washroom as they were only available later.
An Eriba washroom is none the less small. Smaller than a standard caravan
They are not as light as you may think. Check the stats you may find a conventional van is as light, the Eriba is metal framed.

Go and see some they are beautifully put together very well thought out and definitely cool.
We love ours

There are some small caravans called "freedom jetstream", you can even still buy them new. the theory with these is that the shell is a single moulding bolted to a chassis, so should have no leaks at all! From a quick look they seem cheaper than Eribas (which are horribly expensive for what they are).

Aside from that, I've noted that early 90s Elddis Wisp 2 berths are light - more or less the same as the middle of the road Eribas, but with the head height and all the other facilities you'd expect.

You could always match the van to the age of the car and buy an old classic, always a few old sprites knocking around on ebay, the sprites should be pretty light too, but you will give up some facilities that you'd get in a newer van.. First one I found : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/vintage-classic-retro-sh...

Thanks chaps for helpful replies. Looking at alternatives as well as Eriba, and as you mention those Eriba are very expensive. Maybe end up with a Freedom or a early classic.
