Favours.... Well
The photographer - Because I like beaver pics, and I need pictures sometimes for work + he's trying to make a living so why not?
Me & the Mrs have joked of opening a little cafe up river and calling it the greasy beaver.

Others...... It was built at the very beginning of lockdown 1 when everything was shut, builders merchants etc etc.
So the couple who run the local scaff firm who opened up their yard and sold me planks for not enough have had a night away last summer.
The manager of my local merchants also opened up for the 6x2.....
A mate who is a climber did some tree work for me and is doing more in exchange for a couple of nights again this year etc etc
Life's about relationships......

Paddle boarding the river..... Perhaps. I have tubed it years ago with mates down to Budleigh but we covered the bottoms with duck tape..... Better just to drive to the beach
And that’s how it should be. I bet they’ve all been more than grateful. It’s exactly the kind of escape I love. Great for mental health and the health of community and relationships thumbup

The cafe idea is brilliant and I love the name. Do it!

Love the treehouse!

Bought an Alpkit Elan a couple of weeks ago.
The idea being (like last year) I'd wildcamp every month. So far it's not going very well.

Total = 0

It's absolutely Baltic out there.

Good thread this one. I'm hoping to do a bit of bikepacking/wild camping when lockdown is lifted along the Norfolk coast and around the broads. Might have to mix it up with some proper sites of course. Does anyone know of any decent spots? I was really hoping to be able to find some secluded spots by the beaches/dunes...be good to know where might be good?

Thanks!

Safe in virus terms? Given you're all on your own, and if you're not going too far, then it's safe now.

Or safe in 'not getting a fine' terms? Few more weeks yet, IMO.

I've got a couple of secluded spots within 2 miles of my house which I reach solely using off-road footpaths. I consider that safe under both definitions. Once April comes I'll get the bike out and head further afield.

We are campers, usually carry the kitchen sink with us in a 6x4ft trailer and a car stuffed full. The sites we like going to are either already fully booked or not allowing campers.

So we are going lightweight this year with sit on kayaks, going to explore a fair few Scottish Lochs that are less than an hour from our door. Spend the odd night on islands or beaches around them. We could have done that on our boat, but stupidly sold it with a hope of upgrading early 2020 Should have thought about the global pandemic bearing down on us.

I'm really looking forward to it, the Mrs, she's apprehensive but she did really enjoy the days we did when we hired on Loch Ken and as long as we have wine, she'll be happy. I'm not sure how well my lad will deal with no MiFi, but he will get over it and suspect he'll be too tired to bother anyway.

The stay at home order expires on 29th March, you can't overnight in another home/hotel until May 17th, but if you're in a self contained camper then you're in your own household, so I reckon from 29th March wild camping or if you have somewhere to park overnight. I think it's April 12th for campsites opening.

We hired a cottage in caister on sea last year. Right by the beach. Bit of a nothing town but beautiful scenery. Huge beach with dunes. Happisburgh was also really scenic. The year before that we stayed in Hunstanton which has a huge beach with dunes. We noticed lots of people camping there.

Yep, 12th April for campsites providing you have self contained facilities.

Had an email where we store ours that the associated campsite is opening and we’ve booked and had confirmed the first weekend after the 12th. Definitely no tents allowed in either at the moment and you must have your own facilities as toilets and shower blocks remain closed.

you can wild camp now - go for a drive - walk/rest put up your tent/ camp walk drive home.
Dont share a tent outside of your bubble/family. Nothing in the law to say you cannot do that.

Guidance may not like it but fuk the govt guidance as its not law. There is no risk. There is no "Local" distance stated in the Act. Walking/exercise is an absolute exemption and allowed.

Dont give up your rights so easily. Question and Think for yourself.

Not strictly true. From the 29th March "stay at home" ends, and from the 12th April at the earliest it's "UK domestic holidays away from home permitted, with self-contained accommodation able to reopen for use by members of the same household".

This isn't about "rights", it's about a bit of consideration for others, a bit of not wanting bad PR for outdoor activities, and not screwing things up now having come this far. Yes there's no specific, draconian definition of local, nor is there a time limit on exercise. So I have no issue starting and ending a bike ride from home covering 50 miles over many hours, but wild camping now is, to be frank, taking the piss. We are over a year into this now, surely people can wait four more weeks until camping fits in properly with the roadmap so it's not screwed up for everyone else.

Putting up a tent, making a meal and going to sleep are not considered "exercise" by any sane person.

its resting - having a walk, resting for 1min or 1 or 8 hrs is resting - having a shelter to stay safe and warm is also a sensible part of resting eating as you walk or cooking it on a stove is all part of eating.

Have a think about your civil liberties and your rights - dont roll over so easily.

its not in holiday accommodation or even a holiday - its exercise, for mental well being. Do you stop on your cycle ride? I certainly do, have a coffee from a flask eat some food. May even put up an umbrella if raining. A tent is a form of protection from the elements it enables you to stop and rest on a hike. Infact its an important safety item on long walks or hikes in the hills.

Again dont give up your civil liberties so easily - dont roll over and give in to guidance.

Wild camping has no risk. its not banned. Use your own judgement. It is about "rights"

Its all about rights - thats the fundamental part of our society is rights and freedoms and how they are made. The whole govt response has been disproportionate and a disgrace for the taking away of civil liberties - without which we have nothing. You are sleepwalking into oblivion and tyranny if you cannot understand the basic premise of your rights and who can take them away or allow them to.
