Despite having some bike bags I'm still carrying way too much on my back.

If that Blue bag in the photo is on you back .. then you have far too much on your back!
Ideally you should have nothing on your back and everything on your bike , or just carry less

Good luck anyway !
A good alternative to bike bags (or for me when I had young children 'as well as bike bags') is a Bob Yak. I find they make the bike far more stable than 4 heavy paniers. We have the road version but they do an off-road model with suspension as well.

Well done on the tour!

Just got back from 5 days wild camping on Skye, circa 20 degree weather every day, swims in the sea most days, bloody lovely it was, best Skye trip I've had yet and found some real gems to camp at this time round!

Amazingly (given the weather) not as bad as the other times I've been up there, Wednesday morning was the worst but a combination of jungle spray and some other roll on my mate brought seemed to be the perfect cocktail to keep them just far enough away

Must admit I got quite swept up in the trip and only took a handful of photos across the full trip, if I can work out getting them off my phone I'll get them on here asap

Just spent a week on the West of Scotland. Midgies were fking horrendous - around Glencoe was the worst. Great trip though, couldn't have wished for better weather.

A couple of pictures from Mull:

Desperate to get up to Scotland at some point. Have friends who went and said the Midges were horrendous for them this year.

We’ve pretty much spent 50% of our time since April ‘wild camping’ in one for or another. From weekends away in the van, hammock camps and renovating an old 1940s lifeboat in to a river cruiser. All without mains power/water and have loved every minute of it. Definitely making me reconsider having a house!

Spent the weekend in the Cotswolds with the van a few weeks back and did an evening at Caffeine and Machine. In one of the villages we were asked where we were from etc and other half mentioned we’d slept in the van in the car park by the river. To which a rather well spoken person looked us up and down and asked “ohhh are you here for the festival?” I did tell him they’re now in the phone to their bestie about no overnight parking signs. Definitely Circus freaks.

Just ordered a British Army arctic sleeping bag.

Should do for the winter months!

Hope you have a big backpack...

If you've got one, might as well use a bivvy instead of a tent, and for added luxury, a silk liner.

Jokes aside I've got a fleece bag liner and its the comfiest thing I've ever bought, makes my sleeping bag complete overkill but I love it

I wanted to but couldn't free up enough time, any good? Worth going next year?

Bike camping, and just ordered a trailer! I know they are a hefty bit of kit!

It was OK, loads of demonstrations of bushcraft skills, Ray Mears did a talk, there were plenty of traders selling all types of camping and outdoors gear and various activities.
Accommodation ranged from finding a spot in the woods to glamping tents and there were quite a few motorhomes there too.
The location is beautiful, very quiet and absolutely huge. Only slight negative is the lake was out of bounds due to algae concerns so no water sports were on but there was plenty of things to keep me occupied.
I'm definitely going again next year.

I think I'll make the trip next year, get it pencilled in the diary nice and early, was there many good deals to be had on stuff?

Yes, some nice prices on lots of stuff and people were getting some real bargains on the Monday afternoon.
It was a very good atmosphere there, very family friendly.
