I've never camped alone before, or since scouts even, and just cut my teeth in Europe on a road trip in my mr2! Please don't judge my tent haha it was all very last minute. This tent actually broke the night this photo was taken, Halfords one. I went to Decathlon the next day and got something better. Probably couldn't have found a better location for my 2nd night. The first night was terrible, I got to my location too late and had to pitch in the dark. It looked ridiculous in the morning. I'm going to do this all the time in the uk now.

its just getting out there and camping that's fun. It only aver the years do you pick up different stuff.

Well, partly buoyed by this thread, my son & I went for a cheeky wild camp in Derbyshire yesterday: what a cracking evening!
Pub meal (& loos!) to fortify us, then about an hour hike to the tops....a bit more to find a decent sport nestling away from paths between big rocks, some time watching meteor showers and chatting, with a few snacks, followed by bed, and early start, another couple of hours hiking then a fine breakfast before driving home: highly recommended!
Looked like someone had used the spot before: we left it tidier than we found it, taking away the tent peg we found along with all our kit!

Is there any where suitable for wild camping within striking distance of Leicester?

Or am I looking at the drive to Wales instead! Plenty of experience, just need a rough location!

Well, Baslow is only just over an hour from Leicester, then a nice hike up!
TBH, most of Derbyshire isn't too far to get to - Thor's Cave makes for a nice day out & is quite south....Dark Peak a bit further north, around and past Derwent Reservoir.

Earlier in the year I did a stock take of my kit and decided it was time to replace my 13 year old Coleman. So to get my money's worth out of the new tent I've been out as often as I can get away.

It just feels like having gone to sleep in the most beautiful location, I always wake up here;

Stunning pictures.

As the kids holidays come to an end, my wife is almost at the end of her tether. "I just want some peace and quiet away from everything".
The answer is in this thread.

Had a decent run of wildcamping this year. Mix of tent, tarp, and bivi nights.

Looking now to camp the Dales Way.

I am walking the Cumbrian Way at the end of May. Looking forward to 5 nights of wild camping.

Just got myself a Lanshan 2 tent which is an excellent lightweight (1.1kg) tent. Had a dry run a couple of weeks ago and it's a cracker.

Walking around Loch Tarbert on Jura a few years ago with my partner. Sadly midges almost ruined the night, bitten to death during the day, the tent was full of them as we opened the zip.

We were aiming for Cruib Bothy but the midges forced us to seek high ground.

Beautiful views though.

I think youngest son will have to come next time. SWMBO no longer wishes to camp with midges.

SD.

hoping to do a couple nights in snowdon the end of this month.

Any advice on essentials to carry as this will be my first wildcamp? Looking forward to a trip just me and the dog as we've just had a newborn and he's not number one anymore.
