However, can anyone recommend somewhere in the Peaks (preferably south Peaks) which is ok for a night to reintroduce myself back to wild camping.
Or should I just use a nice quiet campsite like we normally do for our camping trips.
Cheers
Always thought you could get away with a few quiet spots in Shining Cliff woods - some nice plateaus up along the highest path with views across to Crich. I know some of my friends have camped just off the High Peak trail a few times too. Suppose it depends how brave you're feeling! There's a low shelf just below Mam Tor summit overlooking Castleton which used to be pleasant, but it's become a bit popular/rubbish hole now.Or should I just use a nice quiet campsite like we normally do for our camping trips.

Otherwise, I don't see the harm in knocking on a farmers door and asking if you and your lad can quietly camp on their land in return for a few beers or something, even just so you know you're not going to be disturbed.
I guess the south peaks doesn't have the high, remoteness of the Dark Peaks and is a bit more 'accessible' to dog walkers.
We're doing the 'Tor Divide' in a few weeks (self supported gravel loop of the Peaks). Need to go and scout the area i think we'll be stopping at for somewhere to curl up quietly for a few hours!
