Is it just my wife that is useless.... Left a bit, right a bitt... 2 feet 1 foot, arm to signify length...

Nope none of that... Just stand there glowering at the back of the caravan and suddenly yell stop when an inch to go.

Cheers love.

It is so much easier when they aren't involved, same as reversing the car up to the caravan. It's actually quicker to do it myself, then get out and check how close I am and adjust accordingly than have my wife giving directions

You obviously haven't taught them correctly, my good lady is great, she knows that if she can't see me in the mirror then I can't see her directions, she does er on the side of caution though.

I usually get the STOP your going to hit it!! Then point out the caravan is only 8 inches narrow then the gate to our house and 3 inches on that side means I have 5 inches to use on my side!! And it has to turn as it goes in.

Managed it in under 15 minutes last night on my own in the dark. It does include un-hitching turning the van by hand and reconnecting and reversing in.

You are not alone....

Mine still stands behind the van where I can't see her and says stuff such as "yes, bit more...no, no that's no good" .

I'm so pleased it isn't just me !

I've gone to a camera, even if you unplugged it it is still more useful than the wife.

My wife can read a map as well as any bloke, she prefers maps over sat navs and is a great navigator.

However this useful skill totally abandons her when she gets out of the car, on foot she has zero sense of direction and it returns when she is back in the car.

This is a strange phenomenon, and I'm reluctant to imply I agree with it being to do with gender, but my OH is also very handy with a map, and is also - truth be told - the better park-er of the two of us - but she is utterly useless with reversing directions. We don't have a caravan, but the rear view out of our car (Civic) is limited at best, so when there are bikes on the back I sometimes get her to tell me how far I can reverse - bikes have pedals that stick out and all sorts, after all.

As others have said, she generally stands where I can't see her and gives no feedback whatsoever other than 'STOP!' On a good day I get 'you've got loads of room' followed by 'STOP!' when I've moved the car another inch or so.
