It might be right for you, but go into it with your eyes wide open

Stay at the site, talk to as many owners as you can, ask how many resales are on offer, how many long tenure owners, rules on subletting etc

Site fees, requirement for a van below a certain age, utility charges etc.

The £25k would, I expect, be just the start of it

I have considered this as the only way to fund somewhere to live over here in the U.K. It seems that all advice is NOT to do it.

£25k would get you a decent secondhand motor home. Maybe that's an idea.

It doesn't buy many 6 month long holidays

Op, go over for a week or two and rent one in the campground first
I would consider staying for a few weeks++, get a 'proper' feel of the place. Going for such a short time will only give you a false sense as you arrive & leave still within the 'honeymoon' period of the holiday.

OP - Considered a large, second hand, motor home type instead? Self drive, Tour Europe, go wherever the sun is forecast, mix the beaches with the countryside, with the (edge of) cities, with the mountains?

For big:

For biggest (then spend £5-10k 'modernising' it):

edit:
For even biggester:
8 berth, lorry, save up & the fees you'd spend on the fixed caravan resort use to upgrade it bit by bit! biggrin Comes with large in built GARAGE!

I like that truck motor home for £26k but would it be considered under 7.5 ton thus a pre 1997 passed test can drive it?

Site fees on static caravans are notoriously high.
I've heard of people buying for 60k never setting foot in it and struggling to sell for 20k after paying 3.5k in site fees for 12 months.

They are effectively another pyramid scheme.

You will get less than half of the purchase price when you come to sell, question is can you get more than 25k of holidays out of it whilst it remains in a usable condition?

purchase price + site fee's would get you into a rented flat , at least that way you can pretty much walk away if you change your mind or want to move areas , plus i think a flat would be so much nicer than a steaming hot caravan

It's about €1000 for the ferry from Spain to the Canaries with a motorhome.

Personally if I was happy living in a mobile home and wanted very long breaks, I'd look to a high quality motorhome and personalise it.. then aim to see all of Spain, Italy, Croatia, Switzerland, Nordics, over a few years in 3-6 month chunks.

Or you can still buy a small house in southern France or Spain for <€50k and you could probably get some rental income as well to offset your running costs, and at least they would be a known quantity.

Buying a used MH seems a good alternative. You can then pootle down to Spain for the winter and get on sites for as little as €10 a night although many folks don't use sites all the time as there is quite a large wild camping fraternity down there (and in Portugal too).

Buy wisely and the depreciation should be much less I would have thought...

For the 6 months that you are in the UK then, you have the use of it too or can rent it out to friends/family to suit...

I would first investigate the cost of an apartment for long term rental. The cost should be substantially less than weekly rental. You might be surprised. I agree with the other comments about a caravan, I would have similar concerns

hi there...we purchased a static van and had it shipped to tenerife in 2017 ...we pay rent every month ....there is no time scale on the age of the vans...if you want to sell thats fine you dont have to pay the site anything.....but be aware that prices are rising and some people have bought vans very cheap and then doubled or trebled the price....and people are paying the price asked ????? it is a nice site but things are getting out of hand with a lot of people building extensions { there is supposed to be a 3 meter gap between each caravan in case of a fire } with the extensions in some cases only a meter or less exsists....also most plots were left with a space for car to park ...most people now have extended and taken out car park and now park in the road... so a few roads are now car parks and difficult to drive down.....if there is ever a fire there is no way that a fire engine can get to some of the vans....if you want to get in touch please pm me

Not many places that could be as there aren't many sites so options would be limited. Motorhome would be an option but again not many places to park up and certainly nowhere near any tourist areas as parking is a nightmare. Be very hot during the summer months. Long term let maybe the best option but you need to be booking well in advance for winter periods in touristy areas or move out from these areas which should also reduce the price. Bus services are excellent for getting around and taxis pretty cheap. Cars are extortionately expensive.
