Thinking of heading to Greece and back next Spring.
3 yrs ago we spent 5 months, france, spain, Portugal and then up the east coast of spain, across france and down Italy over from naples and up the east coast. Our plan was then down to Dubrovnik and back via Sarajevo but we decided another time and came str8 back via munich.
We decided 5 months was too long, sooooooooooooooooo the idea now is str8 down to Croatia and go down the coast to southern Greece and potter around in the warmer spring air then around to Athens and up thru Bulgaria/Romania up to berlin and back. 3 months.

Any done roughly the same?? Croatia/Albania ??

I know some folks have done this in a motorhome but not a caravan. Nothing to say it couldn't be done though...

There will be some insurance issues as you drive down: you will need extra insurance as some of the countries probably won't be covered by your insurance (and indeed its worth checking your recovery provider too).

Also campsites may be thin on the ground in Bulgaria and Romania. Motorhomes can just wild camp fairly easily however caravans may be more difficult!

I'll watch this thread with interest though as its certainly a trip we want to do at some stage but in our motorhome

You should have no probs in the CR. We went there last summer in our MH. If you haven't been Prague is well worth a visit yes

We honeymooned in Romania a long time ago so will drive up thru via Sofia/Bucheresti/Brasov/Budapest. Then a twist due north for the salt mines and Auschwitz

I've driven down to Piraeus and then on to Crete a few times from Poland (Without a caravan)

Roads and drivers in Bulgaria are pretty frightening, Serbia is a great place but not coastal and a very easy transit route, You will need to buy insurance on the border for Albania and Macedonia which is quite expensive for what it offers.

Another option would be to head down to Ancona or Bari, Take the ferry to Patras and then head back through Serbia and then into Croatia. No green cards required and really cheap fuel.

We took our camper down to Puglia this summer and it was a pleasant drive with plenty of places to stop (Any service area on the italian autostrada is a safe option for a nights sleep)

Ferry is by Aneklines or Superfast and they offer camping on deck so you can stay in your caravan or motorhome.

Weve "done" Italy but not Slovenia/Croatia etc so the ferry route is a non starter
