I've given up looking for Android phones with screens as big as my Nexus 6 (it's not the tallest screen but it is much wider than any phones on the UK market). Rather than look for a tablet sized phone I am wondering if I look for a small tablet that works like a phone. 95% of my use as a phone is as bluetooth device so its not like I'll look like someone off Trigger Happy TV!

Does such a thing exist?

It's too small. I had the S8+ which has the same screen size and after a 'mini tablet' experience it just felt too small. I guess its just what you get used to.

Thanks though, I'll look into tablets with SIM facility

I think a lot of the tablets with sim facilty though are only for data. Don't think they have phone capabilities.

or just get one of those super cheap nokias that they just relaunched, and have a phone that's a phone for the phoning stuff.

Didn't samsung have a "mega" model or something? I know in the asian market the BIG phones are in demand, and they have a number of 6" plus phones.

Edit: seems like they did...

Xiaomi seems to do a Mi Max:

at 6.44", it's properly in small tablet territory.

Yep they did a Mk2 version of it too. Looked good but not sure if it works in the UK

I had a Huawei Mediapad X2 for a bit. That's a 7 inch tablet that definitely thought it was a phone. It didn't like going to landscape very much. Dead slick but I found it neither here nor there. I'd rather have a phone and a tablet.

If I remember rightly it wouldn't do 4G on O2 or Vodafone like many a Chinese product. 3G was fine.

If I were to do it now I'd go for a Samsung Tab S2 8.0. Plenty of them have sim slots and phone functionality and they're really good. I get 6-8 hours screen on time pretty regularly and it's a compact size.

I have had a mediapad m2 8.0 for about 3 years that is 4g, it's been brilliant.

I have had one of these as well and picked it up for peanuts in Thailand. It handled 4g on 3 no problem for me.

It was massive for a phone though and definitely ticks your box as a tablet with phone capabilities - it’s a couple of yrs old now so not sure what sort of prices they are moving for

Ooo they look interesting! I'll do some digging.

The new ones are 8 inch so too big even for me but this looks like the one you mentioned http://www.pompmall.com/huawei-mediapad-x2-3gb-32g...

That's the one. It was very good and oozes quality but the whole nature of it was not to my taste ultimately.

3 and EE are fine on 4G for that. Not the other two.

Just to help out a bit, if you click the below link, I've managed to find all the phones that would work with all 4G bands in the UK that are 6 inch plus with decent spec from the last 2 years:

https://www.gsmarena.com/results.php3?nYearMin=201...

Below is the tablet section:

Personally, if I wanted big but manageable, I would be picking the Mediapad M3 8.4.

As well as the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 they did their flagship Mi Mix which can be got with 6GB RAM and 256GB storage with what was at the time the highest screen to body ratio of any phone. Full ceramic case too.

Excellent phone. No UK support and no band 20 though.

Thanks. I did look at the Zenfone 3 Ultra which has a large screen and that is shown on the list and available on ebay for just £300 notes

The newer media pads are a big step above even things like the Zenfone, too big even for me.

Yep, that looked very nice but iirc the sound on them was a bit odd, with the phone phone acting like a speaker. The newer one is normal sized though.

I've owned one - the sound is fine and its only the speaker for the earpiece that operates that way - there are twin speakers in the bottom edge of the phone.

There is no "perfect" phone - if you want a big phone then there are compromises.

Been using a mi max 2 now about 6 mths and it's great. Super battery life. Only thing it's missing really is the newest fast charging. Good build quality too.

Decent camera and only downside for some reason video recording audio is muddled.
