Has anyone any experience of camping at the end of September/beginning of October in a VW Camper? We are wondering how warm it will be for the babies (youngest is 9 wks) at night? What do you tend to dress babies in for bed (how many layers do we need etc)? Also, where do you fit the travel cot? We have a VW California. Any advice / tips will be greatly welcomed as it’ll be our first time in a camper van.

Don’t have babies but do have a Cali. Presumably you have the parking heater (standard on SE / Ocean, optional on Beach)? You can leave this on low overnight if cold, uses very little diesel. If using the pop top, a topper makes a massive difference if you don’t already have one.

We took ours camping in our VW Type 2 when they were 5 months old, and it was a snowy February. We have a base that sits above the front seats (it extends from the windscreen back to the back of the front seats, and has a kind of inner tent which clips onto the roof, has a central partition, and zips at the rear so you kind of load one child in either side and then zip them closed to stop them crawling out.

We had a cheap sleeping bag laid out between the base and the inner tent to stop heat loss through their "floor", and IIRC just cocooned them up well in blankets. We have a Webasto in the van, but never actually needed to use it. Good luck!
