I've got a week off next week but the weather is looking grim. We were going to head to Sennen Cove and then work our way back along the north coast but we are probably going to abandon that idea. From a quick lock at the forecast around the UK it seems that London is in for the best weather. Are there any electric hook up points in Hyde Park? biggrin

As regards my plans for 2019, they are going to be the usual continental trips.

I've just got back from a few days on the Danish island of Bornholm. Easter was spent near the Kiel Canal. In three weeks it will be the Middle Rhine area of Germany or possibly somewhere like Colmar in France.

August should see me in Sweden, on a site by the Dalslands Canal. Theres a nice little trip there. A trip along the canal in a steam boat, then back to the area of the campsite on a 120 year old(?) train.

After those trips, I'm not sure where I'll be off to.

Off to St Neots tomorrow. Will be staying at the Camping and Caravan Club site and travelling to Old Warden for their evening air display on Saturday and maybe cycling around the area, taking in a few more airfields in.

I just hope the weather improves a bit.

Amen to that. I cancelled last weekend in a tent in Snowdonia.

But we are booked on the tunnel and first week in Arco North of Lake Garda in the summer, second week tbc somewhere in the Dolomites.

On site at St Neots now and I have to say it’s a lovely evening. Sky is clear and there is 3/4 waxing moon. Listening to some classical music and slurping a lovely Mc Guigan’s Shiraz. Some of the pitches are underwater because of all the rain there has been but the site is lovely. It backs on to the river Ouse - which is definitely oozing a bit. Off to Old Warden tomorrow for the air display.

Update on last weekend's trip.

As I said previously, I arrived at the tail end of the heavy rain we experienced the previous week - which resulted in some of the pitches being unavailable.

On Saturday, I drove the motorhome the 12 miles to Old Warden and had a great day at the air show. They had a special parking area for motorhomes which gave a great view across the grass runway so was possible to watch the display either sitting outside in a fold up chair or even from the cab - whilst having Coca Cola and sandwiches - absolute luxury. Sadly, the weather was a bit too blowy to allow the pre World War 1 aircraft to fly - but there was still plenty to see.

The following days I used to go for cycles in the local area - which was very nice.

All in all, a great and relaxing weekend with the weather being good most of the time.

This weekend I'm off again, this time to Wallingford It's part business part pleasure as I will be seeing a client when I'm there. The weekend after that I'll be down to Cornwall.

So, making good use of the motorhome.

Plans for 2019 were:
- research motorhome options for purchase in 2020/21

Scuppered by an unexpected gift from MIL. So we bought one this year. No more wet weeks in Wales in a tent (hopefully).

So, with a new-to-us '92 Hymer B564 we've done a few day trips, and a weekend away just a couple of hours up the road. In for service today, new tyres tomorrow (should have been today but the garage got creative*), and maybe we'll stretch our legs a bit further at the weekend. We need the practice, we've pencilled in three weeks and a couple of thousand miles around Europe later in the summer.

  • forgot to ring me up to say, "They look ok mate, no cracks or crazing, plenty of tread so we left them", so I couldn't reply that the two date codes I could find were 2009 and 2004 and my breakdown cover requires all tyres (inc.spare) to be less than seven years old. I know they meant well.

Got back from Cornwall yesterday. The Cheesewring site near Liskeard is lovely with spectacular views over Bodmin Moor and lovely dark skies.

I'll return to this site without a doubt.

We are getting a sneaky weekend in from tonight .
Off to the festival of speed and a site in Slindon. Sounds like our motorhome will just about fit in the gap, but I did phone last minute and it was the only pitch available within 20 miles of goodwood.
Me and my lad are off the see the cars while the mrs chills with her book and a glass of wine
Then Cornwall for 2 weeks from the 24th.

Sounds good. My next trip is to the Cambridge Camping and Caravan Club site and cycling to Flying Legends at Duxford.

Nice one thumbup

Where to?

We are just back from 2 weeks on the south coast in Dorset...where we caught all the glorious weather. We have a short trip planned to Tewkesbury and Cheltenham in August prior to our month away going down the Venice and the Italian Lakes bounce

My next trip is Fairford leaving Tuesday for the arrivals and then airshow tickets for Saturday.

Camping is still available under the landing flightpath with a 20 minute walk in the show.

This is actually close! Even official camping I think is about 5-10mins depending on where on site you are.

We're taking our Eriba down to Branscombe Campsite & Airfield for a long weekend for my birthday.

I don't know the area at all - Devon is somewhere I've passed through hundred of times en route to Cornwall.

Any recommendations of things in the area to entertain a 4yo?

The one thing I remember about Branscombe is the hill coming up from the beach, really steep, the locals call it heart attack hill. There’s a nice place next to Branscombe called beer, got a bit more going on there.
