It was a Defender. In hindsight the gauge seemed to work fine until I used anything electrical (including the brake lights...)

I wonder if the same problem can afflict a Ducato?

I don't see why not, but this thread suggests it might a corroded connection on the sender: https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/tempe...

Interesting. I did know about the connection behind the instrument cluster and did have a look at it. All seemed normal so I didn't fiddle with it. I might have a look again only this time disconnect the "connection" and then reconnect it back to see if it makes a difference.

Regarding the sender unit, how easy is it to identify and access?

Booked my motorhome in for its annual MOT today - and will have the temperature sensor looked at and fixed, hopefully.

I've also re-booked the Cambridge Camping and Caravan Club site for mid July as I want to attend the Duxford Flying Legends air show. I also bought my tickets for the weekend.

Good point, need to book ours in for its MOT! Also needs a service soon, will cover that bit myself. Will be heading to Oulton Park this weekend.

We went to the Secret Garden in Wisbech St Mary the other weekend, lovely site, sausage and beer tasting is a must.

Motorhome back from MOT and temperature gauge seems to be sorted. They changed a temperature sensor for me.

Two trips definitely booked - a trip to Cornwall in late June and Flying Legends at Duxford in July. I'm not going anywhere for Easter but I might head off somewhere after the following weekend. I fancy a dark skies site somewhere - perhaps the New Forest.

Just off for our first ever family camping trip. 1 night only, just to test the water. Got a massive tent we've never put up before. Kids are in for a shock, especially when our eldest realises she can't charge her phone

Just got back from a week away in Croyde at Bay View Farm

A holiday of two halves would be the best way to summarise our week away. Really looking forward to this one as 2 of my mates, their wives and kids also travelled down, one family camping for 4 nights, the other in a glamping pod.

80% packed up the Friday night before, the remaining 20% Saturday morning was slow going as we faffed about. A txt to my mates confirmed they were fighting similar battles; although neither had started the packing till the Saturday morning. One hadn't used any of his kit since last season so was still locating and remembering what was needed, the other spent the first hour emptying the crap from the missus car.

A very easy ride down to Croyde, the usual pinch point of M4 -> M5 at Bristol was unusually quiet thumbup. Our van plus caravan is 40' in length, some of the roads off the A361 get quite tight in places on the way to Croyde but it was quite manageable.

Nice little campsite, well located at 5 - 10 mins walk to the beach and more importantly, 4 minutes walk to a nice thatched roof pub.

Maiden outing for our brand new Kampa Pro Air 500 awning, actually as we're new to caravaning, it's the first time we've ever erected an awning. I've watched the same Kampa video over and over so understood the principals. It actually went up incredibly easily, as mates had arrived, I pinched the Kampa Gail pump thing which had it to 9psi in a few mins, tacked out the pegs and carpet. Done.

Everyone had arrived and my pals massive Vango air tent went up fairly quick too.

Night one consisted of very strong winds, 50MPH was reported. Fairly fine for us in the caravan although the leading air beam was folding under the full force of the wind. Glamping pods had a cold night which was later root caused as an "open window behind a closed blind". DOH I believe was the term his missus used. Probably.

A rough night for the tent though frown

Day and night two was much the same, persistent winds, with stronger gusts.

Day three and mates in the pods are leaving and mates in the tent decide to declare defeat and go home on account of sleep deprivation. So they start pulling things together in the tent ready to load the car.

I was in the caravan and I felt it lift a little from a strong gust of wind, all the pegs from the side of the awning leading into the wind let go and the awning side flapped about. It was my daughter that saw my mates tent break away and fly 20' ending up half in the next field and the other snagged on a barbed wire fence and small tree shoot stumps.

2 adults, 2 kids, all their stuff, a large coleman coolbox and a bicycle. All picked up in the tent and thrown a not inconsiderable distance. By some miracle, the kids and adults ended up between the stumps and the barbed wire fence and we were able to get them out. Albeit shocked, thankfully all unharmed. Tent straight into a Biffa bin as it was torn to shreds. The majority of the pegs were still in place, they had ripped the mounts from the tent itself. Totally gutted for them, freak accident.

After they left, we had to stay back at the caravan with the van parked against the awning as a wind break.

The day after the weather finally settled and by Friday, we were sitting on the beach in 24 degrees.

We’ve had to have a total change of plans due to my Mrs work commitments.
We were planning a trip to the south of france in the camper but now, after the normal pilgrimage to Le Mans we are going to do a bank holiday weekend in Stratford and 2 weeks in Cornwall, one week in mevagissy and one in fowey.
Just hope we get some nice weather.

Scary.

I've had some windy nights (no sniggling) in the motorhome but nothing as dramatic as that.

A few more breaks in the offing -

Tomorrow off to Lee on Solent (one night only) for the airshow - staying at Kingfisher's site at Gosport.

The following weekend, off to St Neots so I can go to the Shuttleworth Evening Show at Old Warden.

Nothing set in stone yet but we probably do need to get a plan together soon and book a few places. The caravan has been great for us in our first year of ownership.

My Mum is 80 next year and it's in August so we thought we should probably spend some time with her. She's in Essex, yeah not the best holiday destination, but the more rural bits of Essex have there charm. I remember spending time on Mersea Island and places like Frinton and Walton on the Naze when we were kids, might be nice to take my kids there. Whilst over that side of the country we'd probably have a second week in Norfolk again revisiting childhood holidays, went to the area around Cromer a few times when we were younger. That will be out main two week summer holiday.

Probably have a couple of half term breaks, did Whitsun and the autumn half terms this year which were good. Hopefully get a few weekends here and there also, haven't really managed to do that this year but with a bit of organisation I'm sure it will be possible to head off on the Friday evening after school for a break somewhere slightly more local.
Yey, first week of caravaning now booked up! Going to the Chilterns for Easter, setting off Good Friday for a week. It's the boy's 8th birthday while we're away so thought we might do Legoland. Might also venture up to London for the day as the kids have be banging on about wanting to go and have a ride on the Eye.

Decided to take a extra week of parental leave (unpaid) this year so the plan is now to go somewhere during the Whitsun week, then two weeks at the start of August in Essex and Norfolk, another week at the end of August (BH weekend), and a shorter break (maybe 4 nights) during the Autum half term.

Hopefully get the odd weekend trip in too.
The Easter week turned out great especially due to the weather. Found a fab site right by the Thames between Henley and Marlow. Local Parkrun on the Saturday. Did London and Legoland while we were there.

Now just back from a Whitsun week on the Gower (Wales). We got to do plenty of body boarding which was great fun. Only real wet day we resorted to Swansea leisure centre which the kids love due to the flumes and wave pool.

Summer hols are shaping up, first week we are by the sea in Hemsby, Norfolk and then the second week down to my Mum's for her 80th birthday bash. Staying on a site near Chelmsford that my parents had a seasonal pitch on when we were kids! Not sure if it's the same owners.

Undecided about the final week which would encompass the August BH weekend but probably something slightly more local to us as I'll probably will have had enough of driving about by then. Maybe Forest of Dean, Shropshire or Wales.

Hope the weather is good.
