Considering a motorhone
Discussion
Imported makes no difference. It should still have the original plate and a second plate added by whoever has confirmed the up-rate.
A defaced plate with not paper trail - there's nothing to say a previous owner didn't just buy a set of number punches on eBay.
You could assume it's not been up-rated and take it to someone like SvTech or Drinkwater and have them go through the up-rating exercise from fresh.

Eurgh, so another disappointment. Saw an imported Hymer, ideal layout wise again and cheaper.
No train weight on the vin plate, despite having a tow bar. Although this time, while the GVW has been changed to 3500kg, it matches the v5.
Do people even check these things when the buy them?
I give in.

What year van did you look at? Our Hymer is a UK supplied van from 93 and there is no train weight on the vin. My UK supplied car does have one on the drivers door shut but not on the vin plate. My wife USDM Volvo has no mention of train weight on the car at all but its clearly stated in the Polish reg document.
It would be great if there was such a thing as harmonisation between countries.
Does this mean we can't tow with our van? We can tow on the continent with the volvo but not in the UK? The laws on towing are somewhat subjective.
I wanted to take my trailer test and buy one of those huge hobby caravans. Legally I could tow it all over Europe behind the Volvo but because of the length it would have to be towed in the UK by a commercial vehicle.
