Agreed.

Just got back from a quick weekend break in my motorhome. As the main holiday (to Florida) has now been scuppered, I can see me using the motorhome more than I planned in the coming few months. After all, I can always self-isolate in my "home on wheels".
Sadly come 8:30pm tonight you will not but that aside every location you are trying to get you are shut and blocking you turning up (in some areas with force).

If you go somewhere pretty quiet and isolated and if you use your on-board facilities, then what's to stop you going? I cant imagine it will be too busy at the mo. If you like walking just keep away from other walkers...

I guess the issue comes if you fancy a pub after a nice walk eek

In fact, provided we stay clear of the virus I can see us popping off for a couple of days here and there in the MH: staying at rural sites (or even CL's or CS's) just to get a change of scenery and a bit of fresh air. We can use the on boards for 2 days and take a couple of meals with us (and some beer).

Could be just the job as long as we keep away from other folks

All Caravan club sites are closed, even the CL affiliated sites. Most sites are closing and cancelling bookings.
Yes I am aware of that.

They weren't when I put my original post on but now as things have moved on, so will we....

...except we wont as we'll be staying at home for the foreseeable! frown

So far I have cleaned my garage out; washed the Moho (including the roof); and washed the car. With 11.5 weeks of social distancing to go I thing I may have peaked too soon biggrin

You could have really stretched that out

Why not clean the guttering
Wash all the windows
Get some paint in for any DIY
Buy some seeds
Get some home brew kits

Indeed. Hopefully, it will be just a few weeks.

I think it will be initiallly for 8-12 weeks then eased off for a month then back on again. Over and over until vaccine is out and delivered.

We went and got our van out of storage on Saturday, primarily because, in the absence of any other logical feasible solution, I might have to self-isolate in it at home.

I'm fine with that - we live in a very quiet location and I would be on electric hookup and it is just in reach of the WiFi.

It's not the 2020 usage I was planning on however, but needs must. Sites being open for Easter, the traditional kick-off to the camping season, would have been a disaster in terms of the Covid 19 spread.

Most of the small sites we stay at are family businesses, run by lovely people who tend to go the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable, that breeds loyalty and return custom. Having something like this dropped on them must be awful, I just hope they can ride it out.

Three weeks ago I told my client I want to terminate our contract so I can go touring around Europe on my bike, to make best use of our last year of visa-free travel around the EU.

Oh dear..
You'll have visa-free travel next year, and the year after.

Peak District and Brecons trip look like theyre up in Smoke before May is out, I've got a trip to Alsace/Black Forest in July but gauging how bad they have it over there at present, I reckon that'll be cancelled too. I might drag the kids out of School in September (if I havent had enough by then!) and go on a late summer break.

Made a decision in mid Feb to advertise our 9 month old caravan as we didnt think we were going to use it as much as we had planned this year (due to other commiments impacting our ability to all go away as a family) and managed to sell it at a loss of just £2k from what we paid for it new, within the first week.
Did manage to clear another £1.2k from selling the accesories via FB market place though.

At the time we were slightly anxious if we'd done the right thing, however, in hindsight, very much glad we did as the chances of us being able to book any weekends away now (or in the period after the next 3 months) will probably be very limited. We would have been left with a van requiring a service and the loss of another years depreciation if we sold in 2021.

The downside being our normal bigger long haul fly away holiday in August will likely not be happening either in this current climate.

We've decided sod it, we'll go for a couple of nights in the motorhome irrespective of what the govt and police say.rolleyesmad

It helps that diesel's now down to £1.11 a litre so fuel cost won't be an issue but since we'll only be in our backgarden can't see it being much of an issue anywaysmilebiggrin

Amazingly someone has told me that this morning at the euro tunnel there were cars towing caravans with uk families in the cars going out to France for the Easter holidays!!!
Like the above poster how can they be so selfish?

And more to the point how the hell are they being allowed to leave the uk and enter France by the respective passport controls etc.

They are not - instead they are having a nice drive to Dover Portsmouth Southampton and then being turned round.

I quoted the euro tunnel. It's not at any of towns you have mentioned. The euro tunnel is still open.

Simply put ,it's open and they are letting people through that have maybe made out an attestation.

I spoke to a pal this morning on the train with his car and he was amongst holiday makers.

Mine was booked for 14th April but I cancelled it yesterday.

Luckily the Govt has extended the MOTs for 6 months so we are good until November...as should you be Eric
