Has anyone considered donating their RV or Caravan to be used by hospital staff to sleep as they are in the USA?

Some of the MH hire companies are doing it.

I've seen a few people in the MH Facebook groups discussing it, the problem is insurance. Standard MH/caravan insurance doesn't cover it under hire/reward (even though no cash is exchanged it's a free hire), and whilst this encourages a lot of people (very few of whom were enthusiastic about the idea before the problem appeared) to have a moan about insurers - very few seem to be following up with extending their insurance to enable them to do it.

There are issues around cleaning/sanitising the vehicle after use, and practical issues around servicing waste and water whilst it's in-use. Most of the groups I follow relate to classic MHs/Campers and there are reliability issues added into the mix there.

The most popular relevant use seems to be within families where one member of the family works in a high risk environment (NHS) when others are high risk individuals in shielding, with the MH/caravan providing an isolation space on the drive.

We've decided sod it, we'll go for a couple of nights in the motorhome irrespective of what the govt and police say.rolleyesmad

It helps that diesel's now down to £1.11 a litre so fuel cost won't be an issue but since we'll only be in our backgarden can't see it being much of an issue anywaysmilebiggrin
That's crossed my mind too. The view out the window's not that great though.

I've just had my van serviced and MOT'd. I'm hoping the sites will be open again from the end of May.

Whilst I too would like this to be the case, I just don't think it's realistically going to happen.

With most of Europe in lockdown, I can't see any of that opening up any time soon. Ergo in the UK we'll have lots of people who normally holiday abroad wanting to 'staycation'. Ditto people who have been furloughed/lost their job but still wanting some sort of holiday on a more limited budget.

The question for Government is then do we really want to open up our campsites in rural areas to even greater demand than normal, in aread of the country where there are limited NHS facilities to support just the locals at the best of times? Not really a great idea, sadly.

There is going to have to be some kind of 'staged unravel' to get things back to normal, I see campsites as well down the list of Government priorities, along with pubs.

Mine was going in for its MOT last week plus service. It was also going into a dealers for some minor stuff too.

All postponed.

I'd be pretty surprised if we get anything opened much before the end of June at the earliest tbh...

Still on the plus side at least I'm saving £13.75 in tax per month whilst it's SORNed party

hehe

Issue is when lockdown is unlocked there will not be any availability for servicing or MOTs. Hopefully main dealers will run the servicing 7 days a week full days too on Sat and Sun (wager they and the technicians will jump up for the work too).

True

From my pov the MOT was due in May and we have a 6 month grace period via the government from March...so good until Sept. The service was ahead of time: I always have a minor service each year despite the Ducato service schedule. These were being done by an indie garage and not a dealer. The dealer work is non essential so the moho can go there anytime.

But Sept comes lockdown just dropped then you have end of March to Sept /5 months worth of MOTs and servicing all required.

What if (like mine) service is due too?- else warranty will be voided (sure a grace period but what if you cannot get it serviced until start of 2021 and you’ll be done 13,000 miles over the scheduled service miles.

The Hymer failed it's MOT the week the lockdown was announced. Picked it up last weekend once it got a fresh ticket to get a few jobs done on the drive - could have had it back Easter weekend but didn't fancy catching any abuse on the road.

The local independent garage is still open for car and van servicing and MOTs. They're getting just enough work in to stay open but struggling for parts for some makes and models as so many dealers have shut and closed the parts counters.

Fixed a few cosmetic bits (curtain rail was falling down), still need to tackle some loose headlining over the bed.
Did some wire-tracing trying to figure out what previous owners had been up to.
CB installed.
Ordered LED tape to update all the light fittings.
Ordered a USB fast charge socket to replace the Hella socket.
