It was the middle of June last year before we started to open up again, the end of the first lockdown.

Probably not far off, I’m not sure if Boris has specifically mentioned camp sites yet?

Looks like it's April 12, according to the BBC

Does it? I hope so!

Edit - yes it does, too late for the Easter half term, but good news nonetheless. cool

I'm not convinced. 12th April is self-contained holiday accommodation. Who knows why they couldn't make it the 10th and so a Saturday. rolleyes

I think it was self-contained last year too, which included caravans/campers with own facilities, but in the end all the sites we stayed at had facilities open but with every other shower/cubicle closed off.

Was hoping it would be before Easter so we could get away to a site we had booked in optimism. There'll be a lot of site owners gutted at the prospect of not getting some vital cash through the holidays.

We have just had confirmation that the campsite that we were booked onto will not be open until the 17th May because they can't offer any shared facilities. Our booking for the week of 12th May has been cancelled.

I'd be absolutely fine with sites opening with use of own facilities only, that's how we tended to operate on our trips away last year anyway.

On this point we had much debate in our house due to greater use of the Porta Potti. My wife is always keen to point out to our 6yo that there are no such things in life as 'boy jobs' and 'girl jobs', yet in an extensive season of camping, I never once saw any females emptying a chemical loo at the Elsan point. I'm more than happy to be proved wrong, but that does seem to very much be a bloke job.

I did offer her ladyship the delights of emptying 20 litres of liquid (and not so liquid!) st down the drain but she went very quiet on the subject and muttered something about needing to get the lunch ready! hehe
