For anyone new to campervanning in a small camper like a VW California, Transporter or Mercedes Marco Polo, I found this list of gadgets pretty useful. I've already bought items #1-3 for my Marco Polo. Anyone else got any essential 'must-buy' suggestions?

Never been convinced by microfibre towels (and I’ve had a few when backpacking); if you’ve got a camper van, you have the space for a proper towel, which are far superior.

The real convenience of microfibre towels isn't so much their size, but that they dry so quickly after use and after laundry. You don't have damp towels hanging round. We use full-size microfibre towels in our MH for this reason.

Can't comment on the VW-specific bits.

The Anker torch looks handy, I'm trying to get to the point where every battery device we carry can be charged via USB or 12v.

Packing cubes are genius for MHs/campers. Always use these to pack and organise the wardrobe. And have a couple of Amazon Basics 64l packable duffel bags for loading up and then use for shopping, etc.

Foldable bin looks a bit of a gimmick, dog poo bags are perfect and encourage you to dispose of rubbish little and often as you go along.

The Ecoflow thing, fine if you need 230V - but it's basically a battery and inverter in a box. Inverters aren't efficient, and better to get everything running natively on 12V if you can.

A lot of folks swear by the Remoska cooker thingy.

Great if you like stews and casseroles and...err...stews.

Good, aren't they. Also have a folding saucepan and a folding mini electric kettle.

ETA: Ridgemonkey Connect Compact Sandwich Toaster, which is also good for general fry-ups/omelettes'

the poweroak 500 is a cracking bit of kit , a strong little power bank with a good pure sinewave inverter built in , has 12v , usb, usb c, and 2 240 sockets and wirless phone charging . also has optional fold out 120 volt solar panel . costs about 500 quid . Gadget john on youtube does an excellent review . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8gBnQd-ma8

Yeah that one really caught my eye though - could do some proper wild camping with that bad boy - up to 1800W of AC power! Could run a power drill wobble

When I started to go to Le Mans when I was 17 or 18 we had a small tent and a sleeping bag

Now, we have a Winnebago, a bar a marquee a whole garage full of ste
