France 2023 - where are you going?
Discussion
Another year gone, time to book up the summer camping trip!
Decided to try somewhere different to the normal Loire, Dordogne or Lot this year and we're off to Brittany. This summer was just too hot so not going as far south.

We're also just going to just the one campsite this time rather than two or three. Stopping in a B&B on the way down and the way up to break the otherwise 8 hour drive.
Looks like a lovely spot, and close to some interesting places to visit including Quimper and the the Glénan archipelago.
Ferry with P&O - Eurotunnel at £762 was just too expensive this time!

We usually do a Eurocamp at easter on the southwest corner around Canet en Rousiilon or Argeles but this year we're doing croatia instead.
So our only french trip this year will be 10 days at the end of august, not yet decided on exact destination but we are looking at somewhere around The Vendee or maybe further south around Royan.

We have been to Canet but in our van rather than the eurocamp - I guess you stayed at Le Brasilia and had a few years away, but taking the van down there in the summer - but taking our time heading down and stopping at a few places to enjoy.
At canet we like mar estang but it's no longer a eurocamp site, however there are plenty of private rentals on booking.com on the site.surveyor said:
I'm likely to offer our caravan some TLC and then sell it.
Fuel and site costs are too high for my comfort level, and my get out of jail into France is also extortionate.
Unfortunately most other holiday options are equally as painful, if not more so.Fuel and site costs are too high for my comfort level, and my get out of jail into France is also extortionate.
Having said that I am glad that we don't have the caravan to worry about these days, our trailer tent is dry as a bone and snug in our garage!

We're going to be driving up the eastern side following our run down through Germany (and maybe Italy/Austria/Switzerland - we'll take it as it comes) in March, April and May.
This Autumn, we headed up the west coast from Spain, and finished with a couple of weeks in Brittany and a few days in Normandy, culminating with a night by Sword Beach on November 11th, which was purely accidental to be honest.
However, it was our third time in Brittany and I have to say it was the best part of the whole trip, with stunning coastlines and some beautiful towns. Quimper is gorgeous (although the municipal campsite is rather run-down, but totally adequate). We spent most nights on Camping-Car Park aires though, which are usually good to excellent, secure, and cheap with hookup thrown in with the price which is usually about 10 or 12 Euro per night.
Thoroughly recommend Brittany.

That's great to know, the campsite we're going to is only a short drive from Quimper. Haven't been to Brittany since I was a kid so looking forward to re-discovering it! Concarneau is a very nice town if you're close to Qimper. There's a very picturesque medieval 'old' town. We visited in July this year. En-route back to Cherbourg, we had a couple of nights in Barfleur in Normandy.
We'd happily go back to either if only there weren't so many other places to visit!
Other places not too far away:
Huelgoat; by a lake/reservoir. Plenty of foest walks plus the Grotte de Diable (as long as you're fairly nimble on your feet), a mill by the outfall, an apiary, and the village square is lovely. Lots of free parking alongside the lake, plus an Aire and a campsite.
Morgat: on the Crozon peninsula, approached via a beautiful bridge. Reminds me a bit of Tenby, but rather more French!
So many places to find though.
