(I could have sworn that someone has already started such a thread, but can't find it anywhere)
The 'what are you reading' thread is good but quite fiction-focussed. I thought it might be handy for non-fiction to be kept separate, for a number of reasons I can't be bothered to type out.
Kicking it straight off, I've just finished Londoners: The Days and Nights of London Now - as Told by Those Who Love it, Hate it, Live it, Left it and Long for it
It's a series of monologues flowing from interviews with people who live in, work in, used to live in etc. London. If London fascinates you, you'll enjoy it; if people's reasons for living and working and enjoying or hating their environment interests you, you'll enjoy it too.
A great social snapshot of the capital and its inhabitants.

An Ordinary Soldier by Doug Beattie. First hand description of an op he commanded in Helmand province for which he was awarded the Military Cross. It really shows up the utter pointlessness of this 'war'.
