After finding out the other day that Julian May had passed away, I thought it would be a good time to reread Intervention. I've lost count of how many times I've read the Saga of the Exiles over the years, but this will be the first time revisiting this one.
oh bummer. I did not know that. Loved her Saga and Milieu books. I'm quite surprised that she was as old as that to be honest. XM5ER said:

Half way through and really enjoying it. In turn I'd recommend Who? by Algis Budris. Written in 1958 and reflects the cold war setting. The soviets 'rescue' a seriously injured US scientist, working on very sensitive technology. They patch him back together using advanced technology including metallic head/face plate. After his return, the US try to determine if he is a plant, or whether then can have him back working in their secretive environment.

Made into a film that I saw many years ago on TV. The SF background apart, more of a psychological drama.sas62 said:

I'd like to add my thanks. I bought it on recommendations, including his, and have just finished it.Different just doesn't do it justice. I had no idea where it was going.

Children of Time? Different just doesn't do it justice. I had no idea where it was going.
Yes, I really enjoyed it. I thought the author concluded it very cleverly indeed, especially as the solution had already been effectively revealed earlier in the book when the spiders overcame the crisis of the ants yet even so I didn't see it coming.

Finished Children of Time last night. Thanks for the recommendation. Really enjoyed most of it but can't quite make up my mind if I liked ending or was slightly disappointed by it.
I was expecting them end up wiping each other out, consistent with the old empire's ending
It could have gone that way, yes. And it would have worked. But I thought the way that it did end was rather apt. I was expecting them end up wiping each other out, consistent with the old empire's ending
In the end, the spiders dealt with the human crisis in the same way that they dealt with the ant crisis.
