Best thing is just to read them all in chronological order! Outside of his Discworld books, his collaboration with Neil Gaiman, "Good Omens", is well worth a read.
...and if that triggers off reading of much of Gaiman's other work it's also a good thing!

Love TP, started reading him in 1987.
Best to start off in order just to get them done. As the series progresses the social viewpoint grows and the books become more realistic and earthy. The characters become more rounded and you start to care about stuff.
TP is always geeky, the amount of research he performs is unreal!, to get All The Jokes one would have to do as much research as TP. Reread the same book many times, there will always be stuff you miss, and probably will never get.

Vimes, Carrot, Granny, Death, Ridcully, Havelock, Nanny all great charcters.

Great stand alone books?

Guards! Guards!
Moving Pictures
Pyramids
Monstrous Regiment

enjoy.

There's also strata and dark side of the moon, all the ones involving the guards are a good read

Love both hose books.
Two of my favourite sci-fi novels, Strata especially.
It deffo should be made into a film...that resembles the book.
