Just finished book 1 and started book 2 to be honest its not living up to expectations. I'm not a huge fantasy reader but loved David Gemmell, enjoyed 'Game of Thrones' and disliked LOTRs.

Is DT worth sticking with, it seems to get great reviews

If I remember correctly it really starts getting brilliant from book 4 (wizard and glass). If your a King fan then you'll pick up on a lot of cross references to his other work.

So yes it's worth sticking with. You need to remember that the first 2 or 3 were written early in Kings career, which is reflected in the style.

Yes stick with it, it gets really bogged down when Jake is going to school and about his life whilst he is being pulled into Rolands world, but when they approach Lud it gets going again, ive read them a couple of times now.

Did not like it at all but I stuck through it until the end. Liked book one but it seemed to go downhill from then.

I think they're the sort of book you have to invest some thought into which is probably why I never 'got it'.

Much prefer King's regular works or good fantasy. I just felt, for me, this was nowhere near as good as either.

Thanks Guys

I'll stick with it but slow it down a wee bit. I can sometimes read too fast, keen to know what happens in the plot where clearly this calls for a slower approach. Nearly finished the second book I'll have a break and read something different before going on to the third

Book 1 is bad, book 2 is good but that's the peak, it's all downhill after book 2, I HATED the ending, what a waste of hours of my life reading that saga. Would make a good tv stores I think tho
