How many books do you own?
Discussion
I have probably 1500 amassed over 20 years or so. Most live in the house however there are a few bags in the garage from when we moved. Most are fiction and I used to aim for a book a week but these days it's about one every 2.
I 'moved' to kindle a few years back so my purchase of physical books slowed however as much as I love the convenience of kindle I do miss the physical so of late have been back to purchasing. Mostly crime / thriller stuff and it's easy when you get into an author to amass books as you get through the back catalogue.

Far too neat...
Really? That flex belongs in the "teeth itch" thread Why plug in a bookshelf anyways Doesn't change the fact that the 800 or so books are still arranged in alphabetical order by author's surname though - sure that'll make someone else's teeth go....

All those concerned will be pleased to hear that the cable was only there for a couple of days after this pic was taken, so teeth can stop itching!

Yes, mine. Mind you, I have mine categories (its mostly non fiction) and should really find an order WITHIN the categories but haven't yet... I don't know how I sleep at night sometimes... I started to clear out some books I've read to go to the charity shop the other day. I figured I go through the hardbacks first as space is the issue, but unfortunately for every one I picked up, I scanned the précis on the cover, didn't recognise any of them, so now I have to read them all again, or perhaps for the first time. I really ought to separate these into "read" and "not read" piles when I buy or read them, rather than mixing them all up.
North of 10,000 in the household.
But my wife is a book publisher (with a degree in foreign literature) and the daughter of two publishers (who left their collections to her), so there is around 75 years of publishing activity before we get onto our own recreational reading. We each get through at least a book a day when not working and two books a week when just using spare leisure time.
I personally own about 3000, mainly reference, history, biography and crime fiction. (My bigger sin is LPs and CDs.)

Your house sounds like an ideal holiday destination... . Fortunately, most of them are in our second home. They provide very adequate wall insulation, too.I've tried persuading my wife to thin things out but every time we start we get diverted by something interesting. It's an analogue alternative to losing an afternoon surfing the web.
And being able to delve into any of about six decades' worth of Wisden when visiting the downstairs lav doesn't help speed up the time spend enthroned either...
