What's the Guy Martin one like? I started to pick it up the other day but then changed my mind and put it back as I had been a bit disappointed by his first book. Willing to be told different and give it a go.DUMBO100 said:

I think you called it right. It's an interesting look into his lifestyle but won't win any awards. It has a paragraph called "The best st of my life" so fair to say it is aimed at an elementary audience K12beano said:
Say you've enjoyed "The Quantum Thief" and then delighted to "1Q84" .....
....any idea what would really be a good place to go?
BTW - I think these two are awesome and if you haven't immersed yourself in them yet - what are you waiting for?!?
I presume you have read the Fractal Prince and Causal Angel? (ie the next two in the trilogy after The Quantum Thief)....any idea what would really be a good place to go?

A most engrossing factual dissection of the fraud perpetuated by the NYSE and the banks. "Flashboys" by Michael Lewis. Less than 300 pages but it took me a while, stopping every 20 pages or so to think on and digest. This is all about market traders gaining a nanosecond over competitors and buying and selling before you can blink and eye but making a miniscule quick turn, amounting to billions over a year. About how banks traded stock internally for clients manipulating prices. Dull dry stuff I hear you say, but if you like forensics then just like "Empty Mansions" this is one to read.

Currently reading "Lamentation" by C J Sansom.
I read the previous 5 "Shardlake" novels as ebooks from the library but "Lamentation"wasn't available, so it's the 700 page paperback edition.
After Nordic Noir, Tudor England is a terrible place to be.
If you haven't already, try his non-Shardlake books, I enjoyed Dominion and Winter in Madrid, it's clear he does a lot of research and sets the scene very well.I read the previous 5 "Shardlake" novels as ebooks from the library but "Lamentation"wasn't available, so it's the 700 page paperback edition.

I've recently read "Rogue Lawyer" by John Grisham, very good as I find most of his are, if you like that kind of thing. Just finished "Off Minor" by John Harvey, which I've an idea I've read before and is about two kids being kidnapped, basically. Now I've moved on to "Cold Justice" by Lee Weeks, good so far but if I'd realised that was also about a kid being kidnapped I'd probably have tried to separate them a bit.

The Cleaner - Mark Dawson (A John Milton Novel)

Approaching half way and really enjoying this one. A Secret agent/007 type gets sick of his job and tries to help the son of a lady who he saved from killing herself. Getting dragged into the murky world if London Teen Gangs and the rap/grim scene.
Really into this so far.

Mark Dawson was the 'Fame & Fortune' columnist in the Sunday Times Money section this week - he said his best investment was a season ticket from Salisbury to London as he managed to write 5 of his Milton novels on the train.http://markjdawson.com/the-cleaner
