looks nice in red.

i can remember in 1988 my friends uncle took us to the ford dealership in walsall when he was buying a new 1.8 siera saphire there was a white rs200 for sale for 14k.

mates uncle spent more than that on the siera despite my support of the rs200.

it would be worth at least 50k now while the sieras worth bugger all!

Yeah, thanks for all the apologies, lol. Have only recently got round to starting scanning all my old pics on to my PC; got loads done over the xmas break.

How was it to drive? To be honest, it was really scary as it was really wide, with a really stiff clutch, and my angry dad was sat next to me telling me how badly I was doing. If I could drive it now, that'd be another story. Random fact by the way, I recently found out this one was painted in official Ferrari Red at Tickford, purely because they had just resprayed a Ferrari there. I had always assumed this was a standard Ford red of the period, but apparently not.

RS200 for 14k? He should've snapped it up! My old man's involvement continued for some years after the programme ended and I remember him telling me that after they were all sold (official list price was £50k IIRC) the used prices went up to well over £100k for a while. Think they're worth about £40-50k now. Anyway, a few more pics:

...and one for Gavin of my old Fiesta before the tinkering began....

In due course I should find some of the white RS200s(s) that preceded this one. I'm pretty sure I've got some pics of C142 JJN (?) somewhere.

Interesting story! Any idea if the car still exists and if so where it is now?

IIRC it was basically the 1.8 BD(something) from previous Ford rally cars but with a big turbo. I don't recall my father having great problems with the engine, apart from at least once the turbo pipe becoming detached. In fact by and large I remember them being surprisingly reliable, though they were apparently a pig to drive cold and prone to overheat in traffic.

A type engine with a turbo I think.

Believe me, I mean RS200s. From about 1987 to 1990. Three white ones (two admittedly for very short periods, at least one was LHD) and finally a red one. He worked freelance for Ford Motorsport at that time, and he and a bloke called Bob Howe ran them as road cars. I'm not sure if any payment was offered, lol. My abiding memory was the tinkling noise when idling which sounded like someone had poured nails in to the gearbox, and the fact I stalled it about ten times on the one occasion I was allowed to drive one.

After that he had a series of Sapphire and Escort Cosworth company cars from them. I drove the latter, but I can't remember driving the former.
so the year after the rs200 was banned the production run had long finished and they already had type approval and ford had moved onto the rs500 and the 3 door cosworth your dad had 4 rs200's to just test for the next 3 years?
it dosnt sound realistic.

The only thing not mentioned is that at continuous operation at over 400HP, the lifetime of the engine drops to a mere 30 hours!
Yes I've heard 1500 miles being quoted as engine life. This sounds like a bad engine to me, a 2 litre turbocharged Cosworth YB can put out this kind of power for 10s of thousands of miles no problem.

Whatever. Maybe there's something I'm missing.
But didn't the both the Cossie and the RS200 both use variations on the BDA, (or BDT as it was from the RS1700T onwards)?
RS200 used the BDT, IIRC the Cosworth YB was based on the Pinto?

one of may mates dad worked for Scimitar he told me when the officials came around to view the completed cars at Tamworth for homologation they werent all complete, so they showed them half of what they needed to see then took the officials off for lunch.

The staff then moved the same cars into a different building and showed them the 'other half' when they came back from lunch laugh

Somewhere in the house I have photos of the Red one at an Event one evening in Kent at the dealer when Pentti Airikkala/trevor hopkins was there along with Graham the driver of the red one.It was when the Q8 Sierra sapphire was being used as a Rally car.
I have Pennti's signed name card from the evening somewhere.he had corrected it as the Dealer had spelt his name wrong.
