Known as the plastic pig, there was a story about a guy who did not want to give his up on 'Look East', a while back.

The provision of such vulnerable and socially devisive vehicles was, not before time, stopped and replaced by the Motility scheme and an allowance that enables disabled persons to lease adapted mainstream vehicles.
A very good point, underlined by a previous poster using the term "spaz chariot".

damn shame that they're now illegal, for a short while I had visions of taking on to the next run to the sun festival!

For many years my aunt had one of these, she lived in Barnes and used to drive out to see us in Ealing via Hammersmith Broadway eek She let me drive it once to see what it was like, never again, it was bloody lethal. I tell you what, she may have been disabled but she went up in my estimation after I tried that AC of hers, bloody brave if you ask me, I'd feel safer going round the Broadway on my push-bike than in that thing!

Thread resurrection but I was only discussing the absence of these cars tonight
in the pub. Trust PH to give me the answer !!!!
Still sad to see these motoring 'legends' missing from our streets.

I worked at a garage that had the government contract for servicing/repair of these little things till about 2002. They were well on the way to being phased out then, and frankly not before time. Even a test drive "around the block" could be a little scary...handlebars to steer and a twist throttle, push down on bars to brake.

Must admit I enjoyed working on them, they were from a different era of shims/grease nipples and repair rather than replace.

I know of the whereabouts of a lot of spares for them - wonder if any enthusiasts are running them still?

My Dad got rid of these in North Scotland when he worked for the NHS, after driving one he said it was an absolute death trap & vowed to eradicate them!! The way it braked when it hit a bump as the handlebars column down motion was the brakes was a particular highlight for him.

Been off the roads up here for 10+ years

One with a big bike engine would be fun in an even more death trap kind of way smile
