Renault Clio 172 Humming noise problem???

My Clio 1.4RT does _exactly_ the same! Even the fact that the noise is less when
turning left!

I have assumed it's a rear wheel bearing.

I had a mad buzz/hum in mine, but it was from the trim atound the windscreen coming loose. And I can vouch for the fact that it got worse at 80+, in fact it didn't really stat until then.

A nifty party trick is the upshift light illuminating in 5th gear as if you have the choice to select another. Someone suggested that you are to select "R" for Race at that point, but I never quite dared.

id say it could be wheel bearings like already said. it all depends on which race has failed/worn as to wether it hums loaded/unloaded. learnt this 15 yrs ago when i chased a noise round the car and ended up changing all the wheel bearings... lucky customer! id strip the rear hubs down and check for discolouration/pitting or lack of grease.

Its getting on for three years since the original post so he's cured it or sold the car

hi, yes my 182 has started with the same problem, hums at 30, but does't really stop at high speed, also stops when turning left, not right, its not the exhaust, my clio has done 22000 miles, its certainly from the back of the car, i don't use the parcel shelf and can hear it,i will keep going until it gets louder, the alternative is letting renault have it, and that is to big a cost, warranty has of course finished now. any idea's appreciated.

hey, i am having a similar problem on the front left hand side wheel, everytime i turn a corner at any speed there is a rattling noise coming from there, any ideas what it could me? i also have two other problems, the heaters dont work, and on the sterring wheel, the rubber bit has been removed, only slightly, but looks awful, anyways to cover it up? bought the car 4days ago.

I would put money on the OP problem being wheel bearing related. Going off the explanation its got all the hallmarks of it imo.

Wierd thing with wheel bearing noise - its usually the opposite side to where you think the noise is coming from.. its magic, or something.
