maybe you should try typing with your other hand because apparently the left hand drive version almost cured the torque steer effect.

Is that because you've got 1 arm longer than the other?

Some absolute drivel being spouted here methinks. Me Julie has a '98 Punto 60s (1242cc) and we've had over 100 out of that a few times, even loaded with camping kit for France trips.
Granted it doesn't take off like the Esprit, but I bet I could still get across town faster in the Punto...

Mrs Z’s 1.0L 1984 reg polo did >80mph 4 up with a roof rack full of stuff on our way up to Scotland (on the flat, with a favourable wind).

I think Mr V8thunder wants to try letting the handbrake off

I'm doing cadence-headbutting-the-keyboard now!

Should've just said 'dropping the clutch', I now realise.

To answer the points made earlier about not respecting people's property - it's not like that as such, It's just I use every trick in the book (and some out of it) to try and get it to do 'motorway' speeds, and the punishment I give it is no worse than it is subjected to by people who drive it every day.

As for the bus comment - my Mum is anti-car. She wants congestion-charging everywhere, swears at 4x4s for no reason, comes out with the old 'penis extension' comments when she sees a sports car, she's stopped my Dad getting what he's wanted to drive for the last 30 years, and she's told me - point blank - that she does not approve of me doing a job involving cars as 'there's no future in the car'.

And thankfully I probably won't need to drive that horrid car again. I'm not being ungrateful, just realistic.

I do see what your saying, and being younger once myself was equally frustrated by driving slow cars.

However, I just think that as it's not your own car you should perhaps just accept that the car has its limits?

What happens if you had a tyre blowout whilst your slipping the clutch and doing whatever else to extract that extra 2mph from it? or a deer steps into the road, by you own description of the car I can only assume that as well as poor engine performance its brakes are not exactly going to be F1 standard?

How about driving some more 'A' roads where the limit is 60mph and not 70mph?

Just some thoughts

"cadence sex" is pretty good too. Quick In Quick out Quick in quick out. Apparently it improves the performance and will soon get the old girl howling.

have to make sure you keep it on the straight and true there though or you will really have her howling.... ;-)

If you keep it up (steady!) for long enough, it can induce juddering, harmful emissions and a need to start smoking.
