So, back on topic....

...i've to a plate for sale, who wants to buy it on a thinly discuised advert thread.

Not a disguised advert thread at all, read what I originally said.

I asked for opinions on what it is worth, not lame jokes with bad spelling.

Errr am I missing something, but aren't all regs unique, thats kind of the point to them.

Ok, possibly not the best choice of words I could have used.

As it has 666 in it then you will be unable to sell it and it will probably bring you bad luck, unless you are called Damien. (Or Damen if you are from Liverpool)

Does "K666P" look more like "Keep" than "K555P" or "K888P"?

I suspect not. The latter 2 (with of course the final "Up" are both available from DVLA direct for £250 which includes the £80 transfer fee. I would therefore suggest that it is worth about the same if you are going to pay the transfer fee yourself or about £170 if you expect the buyer to pay the transfer fee. I suspect also that this is about what you paid for it.

But not everyone goes to the dvla-som.co.uk website to buy their plates. Many people just look at cherished-plate sites, and at the adverts in the papers, and even on eBay. These people might like the look of the plates but not realise similar ones are available cheaper.

For the record I think the plates look ok. They look like what they're supposed to look like, and I'm not totally convinced that the BiB would the hugely interested in the mis-spacing - my old plate needed to be mis-spaced to work and I was never stopped in my car because of it. Admittedly though the plate was registered to a brand new car rather than an old shed!

Who cares if some people think it's sad to mis-space a number plate? Anyone who's gonna bitch about something like that, especially when the plate is still totally readable (even with official plate recognition hardware/software), really doesn't have enough going on in their life IMHO.

The spacing is illegal

The font on the 6's is illegal

You might as well put "Stop me and nick me" on the back.

Given that after the first stop and MOT stamp, the owner would own K666 PUP, I would concur that it has little legal value. I've seen several plates that after a bit of working out, reveal a "word" where the owner has obviously been told to space it properly and instantly lost the effect. Of course, that's not to say there aren't hundreds of people out there who would buy it and illegally space it, probably on a BMW X5 or something....

I think you're right, they also look heavy so would need special fixings as well

Yes not everyone will visit DVLA but he was asking for a value and I have tried to give one based on some facts rather than plucking numbers out of the air. In one sense something is indeed worth what someone is willing to pay but not in the case of a general valuation - if someone wants to buy a Mars Bar off ebay for £20 rather than from a newsagent then good luck to them but I don't think, in general terms, it means you could say that the Mars bar "worth" £20, to me it just means they have paid over the odds.

As for the rest I am not sure if it was aimed at me, I maid no mention of a like or dislike for the plate nor did I condemn the use of illegal fonts and spacing - I actually think it's quite fun. Would I buy it? Not for more than £250

i am inclined to agree with touching cloth.

if it were k33pup - welll nothing's similar - but this number is similar to those that are available. so it's value is really 250. but there are many people who'd think £595 looked ok for that so i'd try and sell it for that!

No the rest of my post was not aimed at you at all, only the first paragraph was (and even then it wasn't 'aimed' at you, it was simply a converse to your suggestion). The rest of my post was just a representation of my general opinion on the matter. I for one try not to judge people on a point of life that makes no difference to me. A mis-spaced number plate does not effect me or indeed society in general, and so I have no problem with it. Even if I did I wouldn't call the person who did it 'sad'. Some people would though (not you touchingcloth).

I'll push aside my difference of opinion in favour of an easy life

I still don't think it's sad though

Considering selling to help fund my next car, but only if I get a decent amount for it.

Not wanting to go to any of these newreg style companies where they attempt to sell it for you & they take a big chunk.

Your input is very much appreciated

As we're coming in the Clio any plate we put on it would most likely be worth more than the car...even a normal one!

Reg Transfers contacted me and offered me £300 (less any fees) for my TVR plate.

I went on their website and they had it advertised (without my consent) for .......£1800!

Yes, I'm sure.

Its useful to get other people opinions, may come in handy.

For instance if I were to put it on Ebay with no reserve I might not get very much for it. As I said, I don't want to sell it for next to nothing.

As someone else pointed out, its worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

Had an offer of £500 privately before I've even advertised it, there may be someone willing to pay more for it. Then again, there may not be.

Saying its worth next to nothing is silly......

Has anyone else noticed that plates on dvla-som that require bolt heads or spacing changes have come right down in price?

I've had my eye on 4 plates for a while now and they werent attractive at £1799 each.

At £499 each however they are a lot more attractive.

Still means arsing about with spacing though, which is a bit pikey...
