£373k for a replica cobra. One born every minute.

I'm glad there is 'one born every minute' as you put it, otherwise there would not be this type of marvellous car in existence!
I really cannot believe that here, on Pistonheads, people are bemoaning the fact that a car like this exists!
Oh and to whatever chugnut it was that said the car would be no good on the M25? I do believe you missed the point somewhat ffs!

I am not bemoaning this car. Just seems like automotive overkill to me and hideously ugly - with that ghastly bonnet protuberance - to boot.
I suspect that if this brute was put up against a Westfield XTR or similar - on a race course or twisty country roads - it would just get blown away.
I am acutely aware of the Health and Safety Nannies and Environmental Fascists getting - on an almost daily basis - an ever greater stranglehold on what we can and cannot do. If this trend continues I suspect that we soon will have to fill out, and submit, a risk management report to the HSE - before starting the car - for any vehicle able to exceed 30mph.
I also wish we could all own the car/s we really want, although I suspect I would probably need a garage the size of an aircraft hangar.
I just fail to see - and maybe I am just incredibly thick - why a seven litres original Cobra at £150k with a sub four seconds 0 - 60 and £127,000 in change does not make enough of a two finger statement to the Nannies and Fascists for some people.
Right. Got that off my chest. Will now switch back into non-rant mode.
PS - What is a chugnut?
My gripe wasn't really aimed at you to be honest Freddie, having read some of your previous posts on here I can see that you are a true Petrolhead.
I can see your point about the whole buy a real 427 Cobra and be done with it but I would hazzard a guess that the type of person that would by this replica would more than likely have a genuine Cobra in their collection too. Yes, you are right that an XTR2 would see off this (in fact any) Cobra on a track or twisty road but an XTR2 would probably see off a Veyron, Zonda etc down a country lane too.
Oh and a chugnut is someone that moans when a company builds a 1,100bhp road legal car that may not be much good in traffic!

Thanks for the chugnut explanation. I must admit that I am going to go home in a minute, crank up my broadband, long on to youtube, and - Spinal Tap style - turn the volume level on my speakers to 11.
Should be interesting. [For me, my neighbours, the borough and East London]
My FTP isnt working or I`d upload some piccies of a friends 1000-1100 bhp plus completed spring 2005(it broke the hub rollers so its not been fully defined)
It has a racing Corvette LS2 engine, injected and he had Garrett build custom hybrid turbos (yes two)
He has to drive it on the road at 1/4 throttle, spins the wheels at any time and speed
Based in Herts Its a Gardner Douglas spaceframe Cobra (not flat frame like most) with a custom diff (Australian V8 racing diff I think)
Reckons its just over 2.5 secs 60-100mph I am not sure what the 0-124mph is on road tyres but it must be similar but I wouls venture on slicks it`ll stuff the diff.
Mental, simply mental.

Please do get some pictures posted if possible, sounds like an impressive bit of machinery!

I'll second that! Want pictures. Want pictures now.

Well said Sir
The time is nigh for us true Petrol Heads to unite against the heretics !
I agree, very well said. Thats the coolest car ever. I want one, well two because i think the first may end up in a ditch.
Paddy
The hood scoop is far too prominent and ruins the look of the car.
I much prefer the Chevy Twin Turbo GD.
I'd hate to have fuel either of the beasts, ( say 6mpg for the 12.9 litre lump and low teens for the race tuned LS1) and as for keeping either of them on the black stuff shiney side up, I don't think my reactions would be up to it.
My present 330bhp is more than enough...........until I get the Twin Turbo Lexus lump fired up that is!!
Cheers,
Tony

0-187mph in 10 seconds etc is impressive but let's see it on the M25 at 6pm for an hour of nose to tail stop / start. If it doesn't blow up and the driver's leg doesn't fall off from what I imagine must be a pretty fierce clutch, then it's a proper car.
Wonder what it's like pulling away in the wet?
Wonder what it's like pulling away in the wet?
Hmmmm. I'd suggest that if the clutch is sodding heavy and it really dislikes stop start traffic then it *is* a proper car. Just not a very sensible one.
Pulling away in the wet is probably very like pulling away in the dry (bloody scary), just damper and scarier.
It's totally pointless, utterly undriveable (I'd guess), stupidly expensive and the nearest scooby/wrx/350Z would piddle all over it on a decent bit of B road.
I love it.
I don't think the engine is big enough. Anything that can rev to 7000 rpm is obviously a lightweight motor. I'd like to see at least 27 litres of engine in there.
Besides, if the engine is a bored-out big-block then it probably accounts for 80% of the weight of the entire car, the rest is carbonfibre... if total weight is in the 1000 kg area, then it's all engine and the weight distribution may make it a tad tricky to drive.
In the video their other demo car has a rather large bottle of nitrous in the boot - presumably there primarily to aid weight distribution... surely they're not mental enough to require NO2 on top of outsized motors??? Scratch that - too much is never enough, after all!!!
