was he one of those guys who wore a hat when he was driving his 340?
No, he was only in his early 30s at the time, so I was spared that particular embarassment. Awful car though.

Blue E reg Sierra 1.8. Very embarrassing when I was young.
Had some great RWD fun in a field with it before they sold it though.

they had 2 on these

but there not as bad as you think, both had 3 years free servicing and never went wrong, unlike the chevy (daewoo) we now have that looks ok corners well but has had to have the water pump, clock and steering pump thing changed and the drivers seat has worn really quick

I would look at the URL for your picture before playing fast and loose with your sweets wink

OT my dad had a string of Austin Maxis (3 of them) luckily I was mostly too young for it to be that much of a problem.

I know it is your URL my point was that gives away the answer to your question, still if you want to give away sweets willy nilly that's your lookout.

The original, 1984-ish Civic Shuttle.

Looking at it now, from the perspective of the current crop of tall, MPV-style hatches, it doesn't look anywhere near as silly as it did in 1984.

My mum had an Austin Maxi like this one except a far soddier example

It has newspaper in the holes in the doors.

She 'upgraded' to an Austin Maestro which to this day I swear was a cut and shut job. She kindly handed this to me as my first car, luckily I soon put it out of it's misery

Well I've heard all you have to say so far, but I think I can out embarass any of you.

My dad had an Hillman Avenger in a very fetching shade of "pink panther" pink and a black vinyl roof, imagine the igmony of always being spotted no matter where in the country you had been. The use of the hood with the furry trimming on my coat was not a rare occurence, it was a necessity paperbag

Not that the Avenger wasn't a bad car for its time, but come on, what was he thinking when he bought that idea I think a pink car would really enhance my life smokin

Do I win yet then? or does anyone have an even more embarassing car to admit to :-)

My Dad once had a Nissan Sunny estate which was actually the van type one, like this, except with windows all round and back seats. The exhaust was making a terrible racket one day when he dropped me off at school in front of a group of really fit girls, one of whom I really fancied, who's Dad had a brand new E34 M5. paperbag

What was your parents most embarassing car?

You choose from this fantastic collection of iron oxide...

Ones I can remember...

Mini 850
Mini Clubman
Austin Allegro 1500 Est (Damask Red, JGE72P - how sad is that to remember the reggie!!) First ton in it as a passenger.
Austin Allegro 1275 Est (Blue) (T reg, I think)
Austin Metro 1.0 (VGA880W) - sold it to me when I was 18. I wrote it off when I was 18-1/2. I re-built it and was driving it again (this time with a new bodyshell) when I was 19.
MG Metro (D reg) - Dad's mid-life crisis - he thought it was sporty.
Metro Vanden Plas (F reg) - with real wood veneer!!
Austin Montego Est 2.0 DSL (G28SYS) - he sold me this one as well. I actually quite liked it. It never broke down and got me to Spain and back, so it can't be all that bad.
Austin Maestro
Rover 820 Est - it would cut-out when the RAF flew overhead. Something to do with the radar in the Jaguar interfering with the engine management!!
Land Rover Discovery x2 - he always had problems with both his Discos. He's not bought British since.

Ones I can't remember...

VW Campervan
Morris Traveller
Mini Traveller

Dad now drives a Shogun with all the toys (not too bad) and Mum has a Suzuki Wagon R+ (oh, the embarrassment!!!)

Mine had a rear engined skoda estelle which near enough deafened me as a young un crawling up the monks road (charlesworth, derbyshire).

Another time it started spewing smoke and engine coolant on dropping my sister off at school so me, my mum and sister all dived out of it commando style in full view of her classmates.

Oddly enough I opted for the bus to get me to school...
