What is it with Biddies in Metros????
Discussion
My mum has had 3 Metro's in the past and I have driven all of them even learning to drive in the first one.
The last one was manic, 1.4 with one of those odd auto boxes that dont change gear. Plant your right foot and th rev counter needle just sits at 5,000rpm and the car just flies.
Now this is in my earlier days but I used to outdrag XR3I's which were reasonably pokey at the time. (Brands Hatch were using XR3I's on their driving days)
The Metro would easily sit on the motorway at 70mph and I even had it over 100mph.
Ill let this rest as someone with a 6R4 is bound to jump in to defend the honour of the Metro.

ps I dont like the styling but there are some quick ones out there.

Have you ever driven a Metro ? At about 30mph the damn thing feels like it is going to fall apart...This could explain the reason for the 'speed' they do.
I don`t think that a person who isn`t confident enough to take a car upto 56mph at least on a motorway (Good Conditions) should be considered fit for driving
Sorry but I have to disagree with all the Metro bashing. I bought one five years ago for my missus ( 93 on L plate ) 1.1 with K series engine and carb. It has never had a single fault in all that time. Will do 85-90 for prolonged periods on the M-Way without any trouble. While it would originally not have been my choice of vehicle if I had to go back and buy it again I certainty would.

Having just come back from a 120-mile round trip to Fernhurst's (thanks are due to those guys for fixing my washer motor so quickly), much of it on the A272, I have to agree with an earlier post. Metros are driven mostly by morons -- though today I came across two that weren't. The first saw me in his mirrors and pulled swiftly into a layby, pulling out again behind me. The second was driving almost as fast as I could even round the lovely twisty bits (of which the A272 has loads). I groaned to myself as I came up behind him but he was hammering it, and you could see he was near the limit, especially given it was wet. Great fun to watch and, presumably, he was having great fun driving. When he did pull off he made sure I barely had to slow by taking his turn-off at a speed which, in a Metro, I would have called improbable.
It's not all bad news out there...
